Looking for 3PDT Relay
Hello,
This might be a long shot, but I'm looking for a 3PDT Relay rated above 30Amps. Anyone have any info?
Thanks

Lucky:
Take a look at Surplus Sales of Nebraska. They are a radio supply store mostly and have lots of new old stock ... original stuff never used. I've bought a few things from them at the big "Dayton Hamvention" ... like a huge garage sale for ham radio stuff ... but have never mail ordered through them.
They sure stock a lot of neat high power stuff that's tough to find anymore.
About half way down on the right side is what you're looking for.

Ooops .. just realized you never said what DC or AC voltage for the coil.
Best of luck.

Re: Looking for 3PDT Relay
Thanks OFD.
Good site! I couldn't seem to find a 3PDT that has a high enough amp rating unfortunately.
What I'm looking for is an 11-pin, 3PDT relay with a DC coil (preferably 24VDC) and it has to be 30A or higher. Finding them with higher amps seems to be difficult.
The application is for an electric bike that uses a 3-phase brushless motor. What I'm doing is using the relay to change from a WYE to DELTA configuration on-the-fly, giving me some extra speed when I need it.
One perfect relay I've found sells on ebay for $2000, but I'm hoping to find something similar for a LOT cheaper.
I may have to use 3 separate SPDT relays, but I'm hoping to have a single 3PDT relay to ensure each phase wire switches at the same time. If they don't, the motor could seize in an instant while riding it.. not fun.

Re: Looking for 3PDT Relay
I haven't done any research on possible circuits, but what about using MOSFETs for switching? They will handle the current dead simply, be fast, cheap, no arcing of contacts if switched under load, and MOSFETs could be paralleled to handle the output of Niagara Falls ... well, ok .. thats an exaggeration but you get the idea.

Hmm, that could be a possibility. They would definitely be cheap. I'll look into it, thanks

Above 30 Amps is going to be difficult. You are talking specialized industrial applications.
600V-25A is fairly common though. I have a few if they will meet your needs

Women and planes have alot in common
Both are expensive, loud, and noisy.
However, when handled properly both respond well and provide great pleasure

Lucky:
How much current does your bike draw at max?
There are some highly efficient electric motor speed controllers from the model airplane world that might be very suitable for your needs of increased efficiency and max battery life. Some of the ones for competition are rated at 100 amps continuous and well above that surge.
These come in models for brushed and brushless motors. Because of mass production in China, the price point is quite low too.
The last few years, electric flight has taken huge steps forward and the speed controllers are at the front of that advance.
Here's a link to start you off ... the low current ones are at thhe top of the page, increasing as you go down.

Re: Looking for 3PDT Relay
Hmm, never saw speed controllers like that before. I'm not sure how they'd work as my DC Controller has a throttle input, 5 hall sensor inputs from the motor, and works with my 120 degree phase brushless motor.
My bike draws 30 amps max when accelerating. At top speed (40km/h) I draw from 6-13 amps. With the 3PDT relay I should get 55km/h max (that's about as fast as I'd wanna go on a bicycle) with the same 6-13 amp draw.
I think I found a suitable 3PDT switch on ebay for $16. It's rated for 30 amps, has a 12VDC coil and it's 11-pin as I need. Gonna order one and see how it works. I'll let you know my progress and look into other options if it doesn't. Thanks for the help!

Jump on that one Lucky. It should be exactly what you're looking for.

Re: Looking for 3PDT Relay
Could you try three separate relays instead of a single 3pdt?
