Adding S license to my M2 question

Post by airmech07 »

I currently have my M2 license; however I also went to school for Structures also. I have no completed all my tasks for structures; do I have to write CARs again if I apply for my S license?

thank you in advance

When I added M2 to my M1 (which also adds E and S), all I had to do was submit a logbook, proof of experience, and pay the $35 to add a rating. CARs is good for life AFAIK, though your regional office should be able to answer that better than I.

Airmech07 have a look at Standard 566.03, you'll need proof of training (wherever you took the structures course) plus log book tasks, which you'll also find in the Standard and of course pay your fee. You should not have to rewrite CARs again.

I do have to ask... Why bother? Can't an M2 sign off structures work... And if you were to go for anything shouldn't you aim for the M1, because then you wouldn't be issued 'any other licence' because m1 and m2 licence can sign for everything?

An M2 cannot sign off structural work, well any structural work that is considered specialized......

If that was the case, there would be no point in the existence of an S license or the E license for that matter. Now if you have an M1/M2, you can sign off structural work.

I would get my m2, however I have never worked on m1 aircraft and I took structures and maintenance in school and at my previous jobs I've done all structures work and also maintenance. I was looking to get my S license to do contracting

Even if you have M1/M2 you cannot sign E or S specialized maintenance unless.... the AMO (internally) proves you have enough relevant experience in that field. How do they prove that...Logbook, was the only way I could think of. If TC ever audited your company and found you did not have the experience needed they could screw you to the wall. This was questioned at my last audit 2 years ago. Just wanted to throw that out there as it might save someones ass.

Cheers,
Otto
