Caravan - Amik Aviation
Caravan - Amik Aviation
Any former drivers out there. 1000hrs seem a little high for a entry level airplane. Maybe the floats underneath it are driving the insurance numbers up. Just curious. I seem to remember that owners name. Any comments would be great.

What? When did a caravan become an entry level Aircraft? PT6 out front, single pilot IFR. You need 1000 min to fly SPIFR. Then add floats to the mix.

Re: Caravan - Amik Aviation
in 2004, me and some friends were looking to get a quote (inssurance) for a caravan we were planning to import. Most of the compagnies we talked to, starting with Marsh, wouldn't provide coverage if the Caravan were to be on floats. On wheels, Pic requirements were as follows: 1000 t.t, 100 PIC on make and model.

I believe it all depends on your insurance policy that they hold, everyone is different. Back in my day our CP checked you out and if got a thumbs up, CP would phone the insurance company and you where on your way. I think it was called a open clause policy. I know of many young fellows 6-800 hr guys jumping in the caravan for their first big job also first turbine A/c that they have flown. We would keep them VFR for so many hours(not sure how many, it all was decided by insurance company). This of course was an amphib 208. I guess thats why I think 1000 on type seem a little high, when I have seen different. 2 fellows are still with us, probably around the 3-4000 hrs on type and others have moved on to bigger birds. Happy Flying.
