206 maintenance

Post by aqk »

Got an offer to do the inspections on a Cessna 206. Was wondering if anyone out there has a list of the tools necessary to do an annual on it. Any pearls of wisdom are also appreciated, if anyone's got alot of experience on this A/C.

Thanks a bunch.

Its just a Cessna with a Continental. Shouldn't need anything more than you would use maintaining general aviation aircraft.

+1. Nothing special really. Pay extra attention to the engine mounts and exhaust brackets as they are prone to cracking.

Borescope for the cylinders as per the same Continental SB the orifice is on. You should be using it on all piston engines every time you do a leak down but I rarely ever have seen it done. I've rejected jugs with acceptable (Continental spec) leak downs based on what I saw.

If you don't want to spend a whole bunch of money on a boroscope (or beg, borrow or steal one), Rigid makes a product called a see snake, it's kinda the poor mans equivalent. You just gotta get it with the small end on it. Here's a like to the site:

Not a bad little tool for a little more than 100 bucks

The rear bolt on the nose gear drag base bends and breaks. Just turn the head with a wrench and make sure the nut turns too. Also, watch out for cracked gear blocks, if the plane lands on rough strips or has big tires.

Check the rear bulkheads in front of the tail cone area for cracks. C200 series aircraft often get cracks back there. My maintenance guys added extra reinforcing this area in my plane after they found cracks in a C206, C207 & C210 all in the same area. Unfortunatly you have to remove the tail feathers to fix, so it is something to do when the a/c is down for an overhaul or paint job!

Bring a good mirror set and various grabbing tools to retrieve stuff you'll drop in the engine compartment. And do a good tool inventory. It's much easier to lose stuff in a 206 than 172 because of the engine cowling arrangement.

There is an AD you have to perform for the rear bulkhead for most 200 Series aircraft (AD72-07-09). A portion of it does require NDT.
