Jazz pilots contract?

Re: Jazz pilots contract?
It's destruction of property, please put them on your flightbags not the A/C. When all is said and done, the glue from those stickers will probably remain somewhat and your jepp plates will likely stick to them. Not to mention, it's not you who has to clean them up, do you leave a mess for your wife to clean up at home too. Let's show we deserve to be paid a professional wage, not just demanding one.

Re: Jazz pilots contract?
I agree putting them in the flight deck is pushing it (someone must have got the idea from the Air Canada pilots writing under each map holder light in the old CRJ-100s).
But, I must admit I did get a kick out of whoever it was that put the "Career Contract - We Are Not Asking" sticker, two of them in fact, right on management's office door in one of the crewrooms.
Keep them on your flight bags and your lanyards folks.

Maybe Hackmech is the only one certified in sticker removal.
Re: Jazz pilots contract?
You guys know what I mean by my post, please stop reading posts so literally. I take my job and responsibilities just as serious as you folk do, and if you read my post I did say that I supported you in your actions, so why the hate towards a fellow employee? We are all running the same race so why try to trip me up with insults? I was merely comments on the few, not all, that take these types of situations to the extreme. Just be professional and everything will work out.

Hackmech,
I can see your point if people are plastering stickers all over the place, but I personally enjoy a funny sticker on the chart holder every now and then. It helps to bring a smile to my face when we're doing our 3rd plane swap on a day when we've deiced four times. In this case, it's a sticker that reminds us of our mission. When this is all said and done, seeing that sticker on my chart holder will remind me of the unity that my fellow ALPA brothers and sisters showed. And if I ever make Captain before the sun burns out, I'll be able to tell my FO a good story when he asks what the sticker on his chart holder is all about.
To be clear, I'm not advocating that everyone should put a sticker on their chart holder, but the odd one probably isn't that big of a deal.
And thanks for your support, the more employee groups on our side, the better!

Re: Jazz pilots contract?
I don't have a stake in this either way, but from all accounts, Jazz is a great place to work, apart from the abysmal pay at the botl. I'm sure that if this was fixed, then pilots wouldn't necessarily 'leave at a moment's notice..' IF you took $25k of the training cost of a new hire, and paid it to the guy who is leaving, then he might not leave in the first place...vref wrote:Hey Unitholder,
. No doubt, making $40K is difficult to live in any city but unfortuneatley that's what the pay is. Pilots don't care that the company spends approx. $100K/pilot to bring them up to "Jazz standard" only to have them leave the company at a moments notice when Air Canada and Westjet have an open cattle call. That's Jazz's problem...not mine. The only reason that they want a life contract is because the days of the open cattle calls are behind us. It used to be that operating for a regional carrier was your ticket to the bigger guys. Not to say that doesn't happen anymore...just not as much. Everyone deserves a raise...no doubt......A strike doesn't benefit anyone.
Pay the people well, and treat them well, and generally, they will stick around and do a good job for you.
I will agree with the strike doesn't benefit anyone sentiment...

Re: Jazz pilots contract?
So did union give company notice for strike on the 12th?
Re: Jazz pilots contract?
No one seems to know.
But no emails and nothing in the news suggest we did not.

Re: Jazz pilots contract?
They have not given the 72-notice. The bargaining is progressing well, and the notice will not be given as long as this pace continues.

Re: Jazz pilots contract?
Aside from the money what are you guys asking for? What about pension, working conditions (thinking sectors, duty days, or tail swaps), stuff like dry cleaning or cell phone allowance, etc.???
Re: Jazz pilots contract?
Yup looking for all the enhancements to the above.stickontheice wrote:Aside from the money what are you guys asking for? What about pension, working conditions (thinking sectors, duty days, or tail swaps), stuff like dry cleaning or cell phone allowance, etc.???

psst...we are NOT asking.stickontheice wrote:.....what are you guys asking for?
Until we get a TA, Jazz could have 72 hours notice of a strike at anytime. Jazz pilots are willing and able to legally shut the airline down.
Re: Jazz pilots contract?
Stickontheice,
You asked what enhancements to working conditions they are asking for...and you mentioned Tail Swaps? can you elaborate on how Tail Swaps are a burden to working conditions? I'd Just like to know what I'm missing in your post.
thanks

Yeah, seriously. I mean, that's the one bit of cardio we get during at 12 hr + duty day. Leave the tail swaps alone....Hackmech wrote:Stickontheice,

Re: Jazz pilots contract?
Not sure how it works at Jazz but for us swapping tails can be a bit of a pain. Full set-ups, checks, etc. We've actually limited it to one a day as a scheduling rule. Not trying to stir anything up a fellow did mention being on his 3rd tail swap and it sounded to me that he might think of it as a pain. Anyways best of luck to you guys. Hoping you get the contract you deserve for yourself and your family.

Re: Jazz pilots contract?
One tail swap between turns is fairly common, especially if going from domestic to transborder or vice versa. More than that and it's either poor planning or a maintenance issue. More than often, it's the latter. But what do I know, I just fly their planes, I don't see the "big picture".

Well you are asking really. If you weren't asking you wouldn't be in "bargaining". You would be on strike.mattedfred wrote: psst...we are NOT asking.

mattedfred has always cracked me up with the pro union us vs them.

Re: Jazz pilots contract?
Its not really asking .. its demanding .. with a gun to there head. No work, no money for unit holders .. plain and simple.eightzeroummmseven wrote:Well you are asking really. If you weren't asking you wouldn't be in "bargaining". You would be on strike.
I think 99% says that almost all pilots at Jazz are pro-union. Mattedfred is owed a lot of credit for his hard work and dedication to this pilot group. If only you knew a fraction of the sacrifice that man has made for his fellow pilots, you might show more respect.Squid wrote:mattedfred has always cracked me up with the pro union us vs them. alpa this alpa that solidarity butha.

So its past midnight in Toronto....what happened...you guys get a contract or is there going to be a strike??
Re: Jazz pilots contract?
Neither. The strike notice has not been given as they are apparently making progress in negotiations. With that in mind we could give notice anytime if the negotiations have broken down.
Hopefully we don't have to but we are ready.

Re: Jazz pilots contract?
Do they have to give the 72 hour notice to strike after the 0-hour is past or can they just decide to walk off the job at any given moment now?
