The 72 hour notice must be given before walking.

We gave the company 8760 hours to negotiate a new contract.
We just blinked. :?

The 72hr notice can be served at anytime. We were in a legal strike position as of midnight June 12. This will not continue for much longer .. we'll either have an agreement or we'll be putting on our walking shoes. Stby for further.

oh ok, I thought that post of the "8760 hours" meant you gave them another year to get an agreement in place.

The Jazz pilots did not vote to strike as their desired outcome. They voted to strike if the MEC deemed it necessary as the only remaining tool available to get an acceptable contract. I suspect that at such time as the MEC makes that determination then notice will be filed and those that are hankering for a strike will get their wish.

No doesn't sound like they blinked! In fact, if they are making progress, and if they have the leverage (aka either negotiate or we're shutting this company down in 72 hours), then I would say they are in a very good bargaining position! That's just my opinion though.

I don't think we blinked since we still have our fingers on the trigger. If progress is being made (finally) and a show of good faith is what is needed to move things along than I am all for it. It only takes a fast 72 hours to strike if it comes down to it but there's no point going there if we are (slowly) getting what we want. Our MEC will not settle.

Everyone settles. That's the way negotiations go. You compromise and neither party will get everything what they want, just enough to make them reasonably happy.

you're right, what I should have said is our MEC will get what is fair and not settle on another half ass contract.

Lets not forget that we have to vote on this after and if the proposed T.A. from the company sucks the fat one well, it's a big thumbs down and we go back to the table or worse.

This is only my view but from what I have seen in the past the longer "talks" go, the better it is for managment as they slowly chip away at the union demands....not saying that is the case here but it happens more often than not. You guys have a good unified group there. Hopefully you get what's coming to you, instead of some half-assed watered down version.

Yes, long negotiations are going to result in a disappointing contract. The longer you're willing to sit there the more obvious it becomes your aren't willing to strike. Has any kind of strike deadline been set? That should be job one. Saying we could strike at anytime isn't threatening. Despite what your stickers say you are now asking.
These guys were NOT asking....but they think your stickers are cute.

Woah, settle down up there.

Negotiations will resume in YOW tomorrow, we all know that now. Just give the Negotiations Committee your full support at this time. Every pilot at Jazz knows how excellent a team of negotiators that we have assembled. Not only that, they have $5 million dollars worth of money behind them specifically for negotiations and strike preparedness. That money buys a lot of high-caliber legal advice and excellent actuaries. Our negotiators know the Game, and we know that about our negotiators.

They are the guys that are sitting at the table with the Company and the Office of the Minister of Labour.

They are the guys that know the Score.

Now support them while they do their job and secure us a Career Contract. Don't jump the gun on them.

Act as safely and professionally as you can on the line; be within the CARs, COM, AOM, and your current [expired] contract.

what it means to screw with this pilot group.
Time to send a shot, not over the bow, but directly into it.

Let's get ready to RUUUUUMMMMMMBBBBBLLLLLLLEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!

Respect to Spirit Air pilots for walking the picket line. They set a deadline of June 12 and didn`t flinch. Not going for more management playing games and stall tactics.

Patience pilotos.

Strikes aren't free. I appreciate that it's a necessary bargaining tool in this case but if push comes to shove it will cost you all dearly. Even if you get your contract it will come at a price. The bottom line suffers, relations don't improve with the desk fliers and if your contract language isn't air tight you will get rammed up the pooper with every loophole and "interpretation."

A better contract should not be the only goal. Winning the good will of the company is important for resolving unforeseen contract issues and for the day when the contract expires and its time to sit down again.

I hope JAZZ learns the value of it's pilots and flighties without going through a strike.

Patience - you've come a long way - stay the course.

No one is arguing that the plug needs to be pulled! The MEC will do it when the time is right for them, not the company.

Until then... Act as safely and professionally as you can on the line; be within the CARs, COM, AOM, and your current [expired] contract.

Not entirely sure of the history for Spirit, or Labour laws in the U.S, but they were negotiating for 3 years. The mangement was still trying to get concessions, so yah they walked. We won't be still sitting at the table in 2 years, so have some confidence in our negotiators. Call the Strike centre and get informed as to what might happen if we were to pull the trigger too soon.

Its for intimidation. Negotiations should be between ALPA and the company only. If management wants to play games its time to push back from the table until they're serious..

G20 G8 and the potential strike dates could pose a problem... After paying all those taxes we wouldn't want to mess up there party? Hopefully it puts a little pressure on our management 97% of everything Jazz does its told to do by Air Canada, maybe Jazz management is just not familiar with making decisions? It would make sense since they don't make any decisions but still mange to pull in huge bonuses and increase there salary's year after year at the cost of the employee groups? Hopefully someone at Air Canada tells them what to do soon... I'm getting sick of management games, hopefully if we do go on strike the shareholders will fire some of these over paid monkeys.

The only thing AC management will do and has already done in my opinion is state they will do whatever they have to do to ensure as little disruption to their schedule as possible. Ultimately I am certain they along with Jazz Management have courted the feds in Ottawa on the matter of back to work legislation to ensure that the government is on side, and I am sure they are. So, with all this in play, it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

After five days of being on strike, they have a TA worth voting on.

WAKE UP Jazz MEC........look to your brothers at Spirit to see how it is done !!!!!!!
