You guys sound like a bunch of idiots.. Good for the Spirit guys.. I hope it works out. Guess what.. they struck because their MEC decided it was the best way to get a contract. Our MEC hasn't done so. Yet.

If you want to play MEC run for a position. If you don't then stop telling them what to do on avcanada. If you're even a Jazz pilot.

To the MEC/ elected rep's: Thanks for all your hard work, we are fully behind you and trust you 100%

The purpose of voting for a strike mandate was to give our support to the MEC, so that when they beleive a strike is necessary, it is an available choice. Raising doubt about their ability to act in our best interest to reach a fair contract is doing exactly the opposite of the strike vote's purpose. They have the full backup of ALPA ressources, with legal and strategic advice. If they have chosen not to pull the trigger yet is without any doubt because it was not the best play as of now. Besides, Striking is not exactly a party as you can read in previous posts. Let's not forget that last time ACR went on a strike it lasted 3 months. I am certain for some people such a turn of event would have a catastrophic impact on their situation. I do not beleive such a thing would happen, but neither did the protagonists at that time. That being said, I am 100% for the strike mandate, and give full support to our MEC and will drive the hour and half for the first day of a strike to be there at the very first hour.

Strenght in unity.

Canada says ready to end any strike by Jazz pilots
Thu Jun 17, 2010 3:24pm EDT Print This Article[-] Text [+]
OTTAWA (Reuters) - The Canadian government is ready to introduce back-to-work legislation in case of a strike by pilots at Jazz Air Income Fund (JAZ_u.TO: Quote), Labour Minister Lisa Raitt said on Thursday.

Raitt told the House of Commons that talks between Jazz and the union had not produced a new work contract. The 1,519 pilots have been without a contract with the Canadian regional airline since June 30, 2009, when their previous deal expired.

Jazz is the regional carrier for Air Canada (ACa.TO: Quote) (ACb.TO: Quote), the country's biggest airline.

as usual i don't feel like reading through pages of non-sense bable. If anyone has useful knowledge about the current Jazz situation (ie Strike), that'd be great.

Jazz is the regional carrier for Air Canada, the country's biggest airline.

"I am disappointed to report that Jazz Air and pilot negotiations have not resulted in a new agreement," Raitt told legislators.

"Although no formal strike or lockout notice has been given, our government is taking action to prevent travelers from being stranded, so yesterday I gave notice of intent to (present) legislation in the House ... we encourage the parties to return to the table and settle this matter expeditiously," she said.

Jay Hill, the minister in charge of managing government House business, said if "there were to be a work stoppage that would threaten our communities serviced by Jazz Airlines ... the government is prepared to act expeditiously to ensure that work stoppage would be of the shortest possible duration".

The House of Commons is due to break for the summer later on Thursday and parliamentarians would have to be recalled for a vote on the legislation.

It's not a sure thing. Hopefully the other voting MPs would have more sense.

Can anyone take a wild guess at how smoothly this company would run if its pilots were legislated back to work?

OTP? 10%? Less?

That sentence says it all, once they break, they have to be called back. How are they gonna get back if they're stranded. Oh I know Calin will send a 320 around Canada picking them up as they go, what a corrupt government we have. Notice was not given, yet the F#%KING Cow gives Jazz the ace up their sleeve they needed. I wonder how much goes into a retirement account for her, in the Caymans. I thought we were deemed non-essential. WTF over!!!!!!!

Excellent! Never even thought about that angle.

We do carry a lot of parliamentarians to many obscure places in Canada.

Legislate us back! Do it!

Let's see who's in the driver's seat.

This latest turn of events has prompted me to make one more post here on Avcanada.

I am disgusted that the Government would deny the pilots of Jazz to the right to strike.

All of you guys and gals have my deepest sympathy for what is being done to you.

Now maybe you understand why I left Canada about fifteen years ago.

DON'T LET THEM DO THIS TO YOU.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

This might honestly call for the biggest grass-roots movement this Canadian aviation industry has ever seen.

If the Jazz pilots don't have the right to strike, no pilots have the right to strike in this country.

What; Conservatives union busting? Siding with the large corporations while employees barely eke out a living?
Say it aint so...

Oh and here comes the HST. Thanks Stevie.

(Sorry for the slight derail on the HST)

There is no way they would be able to push that legislation through in time to stop a strike if they called it now.. To copy a quote I saw elsewhere, "another unloaded gun aimed that the heads of the average joe" I say you should strike ASAP.

Ha, if we were forced back to work, the company would be wishing we striked. If we are an essential service (which we were deemed not to be) than pay us like one. Work to rule? :P

It would be an ABSOLUTE MESS if we were forced back and I would hazard a guess that it would be WORSE than a strike. Be VERY careful who you push folks because we've all been VERY professional up to this point in the face of complete disrespect by the company.

Here’s a few ideas; push 2 minutes late, get half way to the runway at a walking speed, advise ATC that you have an "issue" that needs resolving, and park the b!tch. Enjoy a 30-minute coffee break while you "run a checklist". While you’re at it, right up every burned out light bulb, scratch and dent. For the RJ guys actually pull out the "bugs per square inch limitation" and request the wings get buffed.
A few days of 0% OTP and natural block growth going through the roof might get the point across.

Dirty pool I know, but so is getting GOV to fight your battles.

I wonder what there going to do about the FA's? They could be giving their 72 hour notice tomorrow. This should have them frothing at the mouth.
