Richmond County RCMP save man from choking

Chapel Island, Nova Scotia, January 07, 2010 - Over the holidays, two Richmond County Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers on patrol in the First Nations community of Chapel Island saved the life of Clifford "Bulldog" Augustine. Frantic residents waved over the officers to tell them a man was choking and unresponsive in a nearby apartment. The officers responded and found a middle-aged man lying on a bed, unable to breathe.

With the assistance of local residents, Cst. Marco Savoie and Cst. Kevin MacDougall moved the choking victim to a standing position. Cst. Kevin MacDougall then performed the Heimlich manoeuvre several times and was able to clear the obstruction from the man’s airway. Augustine was taken by ambulance to the hospital for observation and was later released. He made a full recovery and is thankful to the officers for their life saving assistance.
