Good AMO's to work for??
I have read a lot of the maintenance forums and its obvious that some people are unhappy so I would like to ask a more positive question. What is a good AMO that some of you have worked for? (either past or present) No place is perfect but what are some of the more positive experiences that some of you have had?
I currently work for Air Canada Jazz which I think its a pretty good place to work.... I know some may disargee....But that's just my opinion...I have been working in the industory for 12 years and I have been at Jazz for 7 years.

I did the majority of my appretice time up noth working for Walsten Air Service (now part of H and L). Fantastic bunch of guys to work with, good environment for an apprentice to learn in. The friday beer at the dock helped too!!

Integra Air in Lethbridge is hands down the best company I've ever worked for. I would still be there if I could work rotations, I just wanted to move out of Lethbridge. It's one of those companies where you feel like you are heard and that your opinions matter. The owner of the company is impossible not to respect and is more of a friend then a boss. When I first started there and was getting the tour, he was out washing airplanes in the hanger. When was the last time you saw that? I was the DOM when I left there so obviously I can't speak for the current style of management, however they do top level maintenance, meaning they don't cut corners and actually want to perform maintenance by the rules.

I've been in the industry for 16 years and have been around the block at Calgary. I'm sheet metal but when it comes to a management style, it's usually the same within one company. Anyway, I worked at Kenn Borek Air, Avmax, Field Aviation and Aero Aviation (was Aero Metal at that time). Looking back, the best of the group, in my opinion, was Field Aviation. Strangely enough, the only one with a union but now out of business. Go figure. I didn't like it because of the union. I liked the management team and the variety of work. Also I felt they were very well equipped with back shop support and equipment. So I guess that doesn't help since they are gone now.
As for the others, Avmax was average at best.
Kenn Borek was always busy with sheet metal work and the M guys got to travel a lot, but the pay was below average and the hangar was built around WWII.
And Aero Aviation was a "sweat shop". Mandatory 50 hour weeks were common. I was only there for 3 months. My sheet metal manager was a cool guy but aside from that, it sucked.
Just remember, everyone's different and are looking for different things from their work and their lifestyle. What's good for me may not be for you. Ultimately, you need to make up your own mind. If you are at a place and are happy, then I suggest staying. The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence. But sometimes it is. So you really need to make the best decision you can with the information you have at the time and then go for it and live with that decision. I've done that my whole career and haven't regreted one move. And now I have a resume jam packed with experience on 10 or more different aircraft types.
That's a lot. I hope it helps. The best place for me right now is where I'm at now. On contract at Bombardier Aerospace in Tucson, AZ, USA. Cheers.

Geez I always wanted to live in Lethbridge after spending a year in school there but found decent paying jobs very difficult to come by. Maybe I should have taken that AME course after all...
