Q's-Please Help.

Hey Pilots… Hows flying

I m 23yr old from India, very eager to make my career in Aviation. I have some few questions for u guys before I start my training. I hope to get some valuable advice from this forum.

I tried this questions in studentpilot.com forum but found negative replies Hope in here i wont be dissappointed.

Well my questions"

- which is the best flying schools in Canada concerning weather factor too. I searched and short listed 4 of them 1.Airline Training Intl.-Toronto, 2.Professional Flight Centre-BC, 3. Harvs Air-Manitoba, 4. Otawa Flying Club-Ontario.

- tell me how to complete the training in max. 7-8 months. How much do I fly in a week/month? I have heard some Pilots completing CPL in 4-5-6 months is it possible?

- Is it easy to Convert Canadian Commercial License into American(FAA) one from Canada itself or one has to cross borders ( I mean Visa requirement = trouble).

- Rather being an Intructor which are the ways of building hrs?

- What are the job prospects for International Students? is it worth doing CFI course too? Or sh’l I quietly come back to my home country after training?

As I am new to Sky (Flying Industry) Any Advise u would like to give to this junior who knows nothing about flying but just wanna FLY

Hi there... as far as weather goes, Ottawa is kind of crappy in the "transition" months (March/April, and Sept/Oct) and usually in January. (And just to advise you, the Ottawa Flying Club is in the process of getting rid of their twin, and you will get a better deal somewhere else besides that.) Someone else probably could recommend other great schools in the country (check out the flight instruction thread too) but I've had no first-had experience with any others that you've listed. I know Saskatoon is supposed to have the most sunshine per year in canada, but I don't know how good the schools are.
I wouldn't worry about doing a diploma program or anything, as that will take time. If you set your own schedule for yourself - sit down with the CFI or a senior instructor, not the new guy there! - things can happen fast, depending on weather of course. I had a student one summer who did his PPL in 8 weeks, and he probably booked 4 or 5 flights a week. Then do your night rating, then do your IFR (cheaper to start out on a single, then do your multi rating, then your multi-ifr ride) as you are building up time (you need a whole lot of solo-cross country hours for the IFR, which is great to build your TT as well for the commercial) then do the commercial stuff.
It's hard to build time other than to instruct, which is what I did. It used to be you could get a job flying floats in the bush with very little time, but now float hour requirements have gone up due to insurance costs.
Anyhow... hope this little bit helps.

I think that Pro Flight Centre has some deal where it can do your FAA licence conversion In Canada. Not sure of the details maybe drop them an email.

As far as job prospects here, good luck people who live here have hard time finding work

if you want to get it done the fastest possible, check out the prairies, somewhere like regina or saskatoon. Even venture out to calgary. Very good weather, clear skies.

For best twin time and deals go to Cornwall Aviation LTD. in Summerstown. They have 2 Piper Seminoles for low rates.

hey,hows it going
well harv's is a very good school, I know a few guys that went there and really enjoyed it.
for the ifr I would go to perimeter at winnipeg international, I did mine there, great school, they will give you actual IFR time, unlike some school I have heard of will just give you the hood and say your ifr now.

as for time line, i did my ppl and cpl in 5 1/2 months going at it full time.

ATI doesn't exist anymore. Your best bet outta those options is PRO. For a more complete listing of schools, go to http://www.atac.ca

If you are planning to come to the Toronto area, I recommend Canadian Flyers PM me for more information. Oshawa also has 2 schools.

I agree... can't speak for further west, but Cornwall Aviation (http://www.pro-flight.on.ca) has great instructors, really good CFI and low rates. Plus they can set you up for housing and such.

Thank you “Everybody” for ur prompt responses.

I think Pro.Flight Centre,BC is a good choice for me.

They have a fleet of 20 aircrafts consisting of 6 Cessna 172’s, 6 Cessna 152’s, 4 Beech Duchesses, a Piper Seminole, and a Robinson R22 all in active duty. They also have a Piper Cherokee and an aerobatic Citabria coming on line soon and own in-house maintenance facility which ensure faster training achievement.

FAA Conversion is available there.

Weather in Vancouver is also mild compare to other parts of Canada.

I consider the above points more important than anything else for choosing a flight school.

I hope even I can complete my PPL in 8-10 weeks time & with this speed can complete my CPL within 7-8 months.

Any further Advise from u Senior Pilots will be Great !!!

More bogus info on this forum. I know this particular issue isn't important but it's an example of all the bull that gets typed on here. Why do you people do this?

Medicine Hat topped the list as the sunniest city year-round in Canada with 2,512 hours of sunshine a year. Next on the list for sunniest cities was Estevan, Sask. Medicine Hat also lead the categories for the most dry days, with 265 dry days a year, and for the sunniest fall in the country, with 517 hours of sun between Sept. 1 and Nov. 30.
