Un-bloody-believable just how extreme Ryanair will go in cheap...

Charging for using washrooms, vending machines, now this.....

I really don't know if they can even legally do this,

What a great picture. Now that's effective utilization of space!

I wish I had lived 400 years ago so I could have worked my up to being Capatin of a slave ship once I had enough seniority in the Maritime Worker's Union.

Everybody has room to lie down and stretch out. If that slave ship was an airliner, everybody would have to pay $10K for their spot.

I'm telling you, slave ships have nothing on Ryanair...

At Ryanair the slaves fly the plane, the back is for the livestock.

  This is absolutely hillarious... but shoking at the same time. I guess the people who buy these supposed tickets will have no intentions of actually relaxing during their flight.

Sure as hell something I would never go for. I would rather fly standby and take my chances with a REAL seat.

So when is Europe going to allow open top cattle trucks in place of public buses for transporting common people while standing? Oh wait, the Germans already tried that from 1937-ish to 1944. But, they were at the apex of organization and efficiency of transport.

He does this all the time people, its a media grab to get attention for the airline.. I doubt it's real, also this isn't new for the seats either, Singapore airlines looked at this years ago.

Gives a whole new meaning to the term "Standby Ticket" :)

I think it is only a matter of time. Businesses, as a part of their modern evolution, continuously seek new technologies or new competitive advantages. Who would have imagined flying across the Atlantic in a two-engine airliner? In terms of comfort, 15 years ago the though of beds in First Class seemed incredible and now the Business Class seats from 15 or 20 years ago look rather spartan.

On the other end of the fare scale, LCC's caused quite an impact on the business of air travel. Standing seats is the next evolution. Just as First Class lay-flat beds on Singapore Airlines are not for everyone, nor will the Standing seats be for all. But that does not mean there isn't a market for them.

I think it is just a matter of time and technology to cross. When the CAA spokesman in the article mentions that he doubts the new seats will pass safety rules, he unwittingly made a quote that may possibly be included in the future in the skygods.com quotes website. Of course, he is referring to known and available technology . . . today. No saying on what will be developed by next year. Where there is a will, there's a way.

Tiger Airways ALSO considers standing-only airfares

You could re-phrase and say something like, businessmen, in their search to earn larger bonuses for themselves, will continue to push the boundaries of safety and good taste and find ways to make it palatable to the great unwashed by raising the prices of a reasonable service beyond what is possible for them to afford... or something like that.

Someday when I am flying in a twin-engined aircraft, with one pilot aboard, through a volcanic ash-cloud, over the north atlantic, standing up hanging on for dear life to a strap on the ceiling, I will run out of quarters for the toilet, and be deprived of the opportunity to sit down for a minute and think about how safe I am.

I think if they were to offer a service in which the passengers are chloroformed and stacked like chordwood inside a windowless cargo plane, I would chose this over RyanAir.
