Both movies are car chases. Each one a classic in each own's way.
Then you have classics like this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gumball_Rally
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smokey_and_the_Bandit
Again car chases throughout the movies ....The car chases are the movie...
But i suppose if you are going to have a classic car chase then this I suppose might bring back memories for some of you:

This is, after all, an aviation site is it not?

That first clip was from Ronin. On the director's commentary from the DVD they said they didn't speed up any of the film to make it look like they were going faster. They were actually speeding down the streets at breakneck speed. Also some of their stunt drivers were F1 drivers.
Very cool!

it looks really phony when they do that.they didn't speed up any of the film to make it look like they were going faster
This isn't really a car chase, but:

I'll probably get made fun of for this...
but Gone in Sixty Seconds, the second Matrix car scene and all the Fast and the Furious flicks were pretty cool.
P.S. My internet sucks here so I can't open youtube, thus have no idea what anyone else is suggesting.

Twenty years from now you'll be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the things you did do.

Yeah, some of the scenes in the Road Warrior are sped up, but still a cool movie.Hedley wrote:it looks really phony when they do that.they didn't speed up any of the film to make it look like they were going faster
I'd forgot all about Ronin, the only thing I remember was the car chase and that Robert DeNiro was in it. The M5 was always one of my favourite cars. Dull, unassuming, plenty of room, but enough power to blow just about any contemporary car off the line..
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?
Re: Best car chase in a movie ever ?
Those are some good chase scenes, at least as far as serious (action) films go ... but don't discount some of the great chase scenes from the the world of comedy films. Try this one on for size:

From approx. the 1 min - 4 min mark. The sound is crap on this particular YouTube video, but I'm not having a lot of luck finding a better clip of it.

Speaking of Steve McQueen, although not a car, nevertheless a great chase scene with him riding a German motorcycle in the 'Great Escape'.

I notice a nice common theme… none of the best car chase scenes have any CGI in them. All the new movies suck that way.
Bill Murray and The Man Who Knew To Little. Awesome choice.
I like them all, but this one needs to be added to the mix. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMYLjlpP0NY

Re: Best car chase in a movie ever ?
That is because the stuff they pull off in movies now is so far fetched an unrealistic they have to use CGI for it! Sure back in the day they might wreck a cars suspension having it catch air, but that car actually caught air. Now it is SO far fetched it makes it impossible to believe something like this could ever happen. At least back in the day it maybe happened if you where lucky enough not to destroy the suspension...Mostly Harmless wrote:I notice a nice common theme… none of the best car chase scenes have any CGI in them. Hey Moose47 the guy who lays the motor bike down in "Bullitt" and drove the Dodge is in fact the same stunt man who jumps the motorbike over the barbed wire for Steve McQueen in "The Great Escape". Steve McQueen in both movies did quite a bit of the stunt driving, however there where somethings the studio would not allow him to do.

Re: Best car chase in a movie ever ?
It is unfair to judge these movies by current standards. You have to take them in their context.
For example, when Vanishing Point came out in 1971, it was incredibly cool. Now, it's just another forgotten movie. The world has changed in the last 40 years!
PS the remake sucked.
