Work consistency at Jazz

Post by the14ball »

Hi,

I'm a structures tech with 16 years experience. And tons on CRJ200's, 700's & 900's. I've applied for a couple of different positions thoughout the Jazz network. While I haven't yet received a call for an interview, I just want to get some info about the company from some people who work there or previously worked there. I figure I've got the necessary experience to fit in well at Jazz. But I want to get some info about the work there, so in case I do get an interview then I'll have a better understanding on whether to take a position or not. I know they don't pay that great but that is not a concern for me. I'm concerned about consistency of work load and not getting laid off.

I'm currently contracting in the USA but my wife and I want to move back to Canada. I'd hate to take a position somewhere, pack up all our stuff, move across the continent, only to be laid off after a couple of months.

I've heard that the work load is inconsistent at Jazz. Is this true? Does anyone know for sure of any future work coming down the pipe that will keep things busy there? I'd imagine that if I'm doing heavy maintenance, I'd either be in Halifax or London. Any info on either of these places would be great.

Many thanks. Cheers! :)

Haven't heard of a single layoff at Jazz over the past 3 years......that's not to say it won't happen though, you know what it's like in this business. There is nothing major on our horizon with regards to extra work, other than the acquisition of new aircraft like the Q400 & 757's from Thomas Cook, but we're as busy as ever.

I'm not sure what it is like in London, but in Halifax the relationship between the AME's and the local management is horrible (all time low from my assessment). Hopefully, things will get better soon.

If you're looking to be treated as a professional, this is not the place for you. If your happy to put your head down, go to work, collect paycheck and go home......you'll do just fine.

Gonna have to disagree with you on that one. The culture at Jazz is very diverse from base to base. I've been to all our bases and from my perspective and from others that have visited and worked some overtime/relief at the heavy bases, is the opinion that you've made your own bed. Low morale starts with the employees. Jazz is a great company to work, you just have to ignore some of the negative attitude that is present at the heavy bases, and as far as being treated like a professional, well you're going to get the respect when you earn it, its not just automatically given.

I can't disagree with you really, however, we do have lots of great employees who are treated with disrespect on a regular basis.
