Plane crashes into Lake Temagami dock
Oops. The picture is misleading - this was a flight, not docking, accident.

There is video of the full event, shown on CTV Sudbury, that is 'interesting' to say the least - high fast, bouncing, into a dead-end.

Re: Plane crashes into Lake Temagami dock
I think my scariest minutes in aviation involved docking a seaplane...
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

Re: Plane crashes into Lake Temagami dock
Yeah, me too, but you probably didn't try to dock it at 40 knots like this poor guy.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself

Yup, always smart to land long into a dead end bay
We're all here, because we're not all there.
Re: Plane crashes into Lake Temagami dock
Anyone have a link to the video?

Re: Plane crashes into Lake Temagami dock
Been searching around for the video...Can't seem to find it.
Re: Plane crashes into Lake Temagami dock
Yes there is video - of the whole thing (except of the part of him actually hitting the dock, it was behind the island). It was shown on CTV but I haven't been able to find it - maybe sold or in TC hands.

Re: Plane crashes into Lake Temagami dock
I watched it go down Monday morning. 11:30, nice and sunny, calm water, and about 20km's of wide open water behind where the plane landed. Not sure what he was thinking.

Re: Plane crashes into Lake Temagami dock
I wonder if he pushed on the 'brakes' when he saw the dock coming up fast...
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

You also have a prop? He may need one afterall...HS-748 2A wrote:Looks like I might get to sell my 2960s after all.
Success in life is when the cognac that you drink is older than the women you drink it with.
Re: Plane crashes into Lake Temagami dock
Looks like the water rudders are up. Any bearing on the accident?
Is an aircraft like that salvageable?

N number? They will fix it, and then sell it to canadians as a dry Arizona plane...CFR wrote:Looks like the water rudders are up. Any bearing on the accident?

Re: Plane crashes into Lake Temagami dock
Nothing that a good sheet metal shop couldn't fix.
Keep the dirty side down.
Re: Plane crashes into Lake Temagami dock
Water rudders are to be up on landing (gear was up too, this time) - that parts correct , he didn't have time to lower them for taxiing as there was no taxiing.CFR wrote:Looks like the water rudders are up. Any bearing on the accident?

Re: Plane crashes into Lake Temagami dock
You need more than that. Sheet metal would be the least of my concerns because most of the metal damage (wing, floats) can be either easily fixed or repaired by replacement.EPR wrote:Nothing that a good sheet metal shop couldn't fix.
The immersion in water and the prop strike would be the kicker.
For immersion in water, all the interior has to be disassembled and dried or more likely replaced. All primary instruments need to be replaced or sent out for O/H. All circuit breakers and switches need to be replaced and all wire bundles loosened and dried. Avionics needs to be removed, dried, and function tested. The entire fuel system needs to be drained and flushed with solvent. The engine will need to be tore down and given a prop strike inspection (should cover the water immersion inspection as well) and the prop will need to be overhauled or replaced.
All in all, an expensive adventure...

Re: Plane crashes into Lake Temagami dock
Look on the bright side, guys - at least he had the gear up to land on the water!
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?
