Re: Pilot/AME jobs
Fixed-wing or helicopters? I work in helicopters, and haven't known any companies to NOT hire pilot/ame's. Every company I've worked for has had a pilot/ame at some point while I was there. I have no idea how it is on the stiff wing side of things. Never worked there.

I work for one, but we are all full up at the moment.
If you do find a job, make sure you get a good wage, make sure you are held to pilot duty times (no flying all day, fixing all night crap), and make sure you set limitations for yourself too.

Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

Jack of all trades, knows a little about everything and alot about nothing.
Why do two jobs when you're only getting paid for one?

Re: Pilot/AME jobs
You can not do both jobs at once but aught to get paid at least 25% more than a straight AME or pilot position,,,,ALSO, A person can be a good AME AND a good pilot . I do well at both and know there are folks better than me who do well at both !!!!Why do two jobs when you're only getting paid for one?

Re: Pilot/AME jobs
IMO the pilot/ame position was only useful before the invention of the duty day. I have no doubt there are some good pilot/ame's but if you are working as a pilot on a job that requires you flying in the morning and evening, you will burn out quickly and it's usually the maintenance that takes a back seat. If it's a small job then it's usually not a big deal. I've had this discussion before with pilot/ame's and opinions will vary. As an AME, I study the a/c systems and all things related to maintenance in my field. As a pilot, you should be concentrating your efforts on flying safely and keeping up with all things pilot. One adavantage of the pileit/ame is that you will be able to keep employment doing maintenance during slower periods.
I haven't seen too many postings for pilot/ame's but they're usually pretty easy jobs when they do come by. Stay current and Stay safe

Im both and so far it has opened up many opportunities that otherwise would not have been an option. Be careful of being taken advantage of, generally you are more valued as an engineer than a pilot, especially if you don't have many hours.
