Free flying for any newbies out there
Hi all,
I am looking for somone to do some flying for me, I am visiting Hamilton next week and wanted to do a flight up to Oshawa in a C182 or similar. I am an Aussie with ATPL and FAA ATP, I was just going to hire a local fying school and instructor for the quick flight up there for lunch but thought there might be someone out there looking to build hours. I remember what it was like trying to build those hours years ago.
by the way
- I am not a tight ass taking away a job for someone, I am just trying to help out a newbie.
- Can somone please indicate if this is illegal in canada
- Yes I could just tranfer my FAA license but not worth it for half a day flying
- Am willing to supply beer (women extra) and some good flying stories from down under

It is legal to go along with someone for lunch or what ever provided that you are incidental to the flight, IE they would have gone anyway. To be totally legal you can provide up to 1/2 the operating cost of the aircraft only. So 1/2 the fuel, oil etc.
Now finding someone in a 182 might be a bit tough, time building around here is a 152 or 172. Just saying.

What he is asking, if I'm not mistaking his intent, is totally legal; he wants a newbie pilot to fly him on a recreational flight so that he doesn't have to convert his FAA licence.
He pays for the plane and you fly. No money changing hands.
He gets a tour, you get more hours and you both get buddy pilot talk over lunch.
I wish I was down there, I'd take him (and I don't need the hours).

Hahaha, I think this was implied once you stated you're an Aussie ;-Plk978 wrote: - I am not a tight ass
Yea, it's legal.
No flying school / club in Hamilton anymore though. There are a few privately owned planes there; but you might have to try Stoney Creek or Grimsby airpark (or Brantford).
Good luck buddy!

It is completely legal and kudos to you for giving some CPL student a few free hours towards his CPL. When its done right, and by the law, I have NO problem with one pilot helping out another.
Cheers mate!
PS.. Maybe CD will provide you the link that will confirm this is legal for you to offer.
PPS.. As was stated above, good luck finding a buck82. Lots o 172`s but not alot of 182s.

Geez you canucks are helpful buggers ya wouldn't get this in Aus.
Yeh basically I want to have someone who is already learning to fly and is checked out at a flying school and can private hire a 172 or warrior even light twin if price is good (just need 3 spare seats) and fly from hamilton area doesn't have to be CYHM. I'll pay for aircraft and try and pass on my vast knowledge of a cessna 172
I kind of knew I could get around it if it was illegal, In Aus you are supposed to cost share, but their just details. Just because I drop you a couple of bucks for showing me around is no ones business eh...
Thanks again

My question would be why YOO? Going to see Enterprise (or what ever they are calling it these days) or Ontario Express?
Putting money into aviation is like wiping before you poop....it just don't make sense!

I take it you'll be going to Mandarin for lunch.
The Hammer and the Shwa are probably Ontario's best cities.
But seriously, I hope you will tour around before you go back. There are much nicer places around here, not to mention the rest of Canada.
Anyway, if you can't get a hold of anyone pre-CPL send me a PM.
