Guys list some nice airports in BC !!
Hey guys i currently am time building towards my commercial , last week i went to Springbank. On the way there i made a fueling stop at Revelstoke and i was amazed to see that there was a car at Pilot`s disposal complimentary. I think it was fun and my trip worth it.
So guys it would be great if you guys list out such fun airport with complimentary cars/ fun to do at the airport / Just the sheer beauty and anything you find worth it in the Lower Mainland !
Thanks guys !

Not quite the Lower Mainland, not quite BC either. But Friday Harbor, WA is a nice airplane just a stone's throw from Victoria. In the other direction, the Duncan Airport is a nice place to practice your aircraft carrier landing techniques.

No cars but have nice walks
Castlegar, has a car, cool approach not much in the way of places to eat but nice drive around town
Crawford Bay, 1 mile walk up the golf course to the club, nice beach at the end of the rwy
Mabel Lake, a few places within walking distance
Nelson, hippy capital of the world but very nice town none the less
Nakusp, Nice strip, little town, worth a full stop and walk to stretch the legs
Editted I forgot Invermere (PPR) but not an issue just talk to Tammy first
Have fun

Re: Guys list some nice airports in BC !!
I would have to agree with Lurch, with Nelson, great food at the end of the runway.
Courtenay has a nice little lunch place and a great walk around the airport.
Qualicum Beach has really great food at the terminal also a nice place to go.
Chilliwack for the PIE
I use to like Ft. Langley for the grass strip but last I head it was now paved

Right about Castlegar, where McDonalds is considered fine dining. Didn't know there was a car there, other than rentals.Lurch wrote:No cars but have nice walks

Prestige Inn in Nelson has excellent outside lakeside dining.
Nakusp has bikes in the hangar. Quite a few of them as I recall.
Blind Bay has a strip right down the middle of the golf course, and about a five minute walk to the clubhouse, which has excellent food.
The Revelstoke car isn't complimentary. They do have a price and you put the money in a box, but still, a nice touch.
Invermere is within five minutes walk to a pub with good food.
Oliver is only a few minutes walk to the main street and cafes
Beach grits at Penticton if you can park as far south as possible
But I think the greatest in this regard still has to be Chilliwack.
Isolated are, Salmon Arm, Creston, Osoyoos, Princeton, Cache Creek, Williams Lake, Quesnel, Golden, that I can think of anyways.
Re: Guys list some nice airports in BC !!
Fly in to Comox - 10,000' strip - you can get multiple touch and go's on one approach. Courtesy car will have flashing lights on top - with complimentary over night stay and all the water you can drink - all yours if you forget to get a PPR.

Nelson is great, fun circuit. Castlegar, 15 min flight from Nelson, also entails a fun approach, terminal dining. Easy to hitch hike into town, i dont think there is a "pilot car" to use.

I've brought some nice chicks there on occasion. Nice to see you both noticed.200hr Wonder wrote:I would have to agree with Lurch......

HUH? Best you can get at these spots is a stale bag of Cheetos from the vending machine.Ogee wrote:... Williams Lake, Quesnel, ......

My vote goes to Tofino in the summer months. The path off of Golf to the 'fence' and then down to Long Beach. Beats the hell out of driving there.
Re: Guys list some nice airports in BC !!
Port Hardy for the Chinese food at the Airport Inn.

One of my more memorable buildup trips took me and the g/f to Penticton - a short walk to the beach, lots of fruit orchards. Bonus points for staying in the Penticton Fly-Inn (if it's still there on the airport)
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Great club house sandwhich at the club house in Tofino, Qualicum Beach is very nice and has a really good restaurant. Courtney Air Park is a nice very narrow strip too next to Comox and a few minutes walk into town.

Re: Guys list some nice airports in BC !!
Gilles Bay walk down and get some oysters on the beach
Twin Lakes, landing in sage/gravel/grass smells just like christmas dinner
Cortez Island ppr
Hornby Island ppr
I just wish Savary Island was still open, but as usual one crash and the panic nimbies shut it down
Best pie is in Qualicum Beach even if it is cooked by an englishman
Only ever landed at Comox at night years ago doing night ratings
Scar creek for some grizzly spotting
Quantum River now abadoned but if you can dodge the alders when landing the river is one of cleanest rivers i have ever seen, take a big bear gun as the grizzlies are not friendly

CYCD Nanaimo, if you go south west of the airport to Le Petit Choux you can get a Nanaimo bar made in Nanaimo, VERY good.
However if you are departing under very marginal VFR and you tell the nice (and well armed man) at the customs office in KBLI that the purpose of your visit was to procure 2 Naniamo bars (which you state are in a box in the back of the plane), expect some strange looks lol

They also have a nice set of bunk beds, TV and computer you can use if you stay over.

It was called the Skytel, and it is still there. Southern Skies Aviation uses it as their office/hangar now, but most of the rooms are for students.North Shore wrote:One of my more memorable buildup trips took me and the g/f to Penticton - a short walk to the beach, lots of fruit orchards. Pretty much all the ones I know were mentioned, but there is also the strip at Quilchena by Merrit. Used to be you could get a good breakfast at the hotel there right on the strip, not sure if you still can...
If you stop by Invermere, there isn't a car but usually there is somebody happy enough to kindly lend you a dilapidated Volvo, if you want to go down into town or to the beach...
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

Try Rowena's near Harrison Mills ( North of YCD). Excellent food, golf course, friendly people. Do a low pass first to warn the golfers.
Re: Guys list some nice airports in BC !!
That must be some magical Chinese cooking. I mean when you can throw a rock and hit a Chinese person in GVRD (which could be me), why venture all the way to Port Hardy for Chinese food?W0XOF wrote:Port Hardy for the Chinese food at the Airport Inn.

Do you mean north of YCW vice YCD?Old Dog Flying wrote:Try Rowena's near Harrison Mills ( North of YCD). Excellent food, golf course, friendly people. Do a low pass first to warn the golfers.
Quilchena still has a good breakfast and a 9 hole course, not to mention the new Sagebrush track within minutes.

I'm pretty sure you can do and eat everything mentioned at these aerodromes, in the GVRD. From the burgers in YBL to the nanaimo bars in YCD. What's your problem?moocow wrote:That must be some magical Chinese cooking. Re: Guys list some nice airports in BC !!
No need to get your panties in a twist. I simply doubt you can get half decent Chinese food in a small town like that. Did they gave you a real menu to order or one of those dumb down ones for non Chinese? Why fly all around the province for half-ass food? Then again I find most of the Chinese restaurant in GVRD to be half-ass, but if you really want to try Asian food, fly to CZBB and bus your way into Richmond.
Re: Guys list some nice airports in BC !!
Being that I grew up in the lower mainland, I don't need to be lectured on good Chinese food. I'm sorry if I offended you. You should maybe rewrap your head around the intend of this thread.
How about Port Hardy to flyfish for steelhead 400' off off the button of 29 in the Keogh river or for Pinks at the mouth (there's probably 10 other strips you can this at, and no, the Port Hardy fish aren't anymore magical than the others).
Then again you could just buy a salmon in Steveston, why fly all the way there (thought I'd save you the time of making another post).
