dont know if this is the case,,,but it is best to barr the owner/pilot from any "test flying duties" because their ego and wallet are generally bigger than their brain

Re: Jack Roush's Premier 1A N6JR crash at Oshkosh . . .
There was an article in FLYING magazine last year about Jack and his Premier...If I remember correctly he talked about it being the perfect airplane for him but the low speed handling of the airplane was a challenge for him...maybe he just wanted to prove that he wasn't kidding in the article.
Edit: I guess Robbreid proves MY low speed by getting that post in before mine...
Edit 2: Just re-read the article and clearly remember it differently...oh well, glad he is ok.

One has to wonder whom the lawyers will sue over this one. The aircraft manufacturer? The engine manufacturer? The tire manufacturer?

Nah, they'll sue all the spectators cause they caused the crash by watching him land, and too much pressure on him.Hedley wrote:One has to wonder whom the lawyers will sue over this one. The aircraft manufacturer? The engine manufacturer? The tire manufacturer?

Are we allowed to speculate that this was pilot error, or do we have to wait for the official report?

Keeeeerrriiissstt he was lucky!
Another foot on that wingtip and he would have been a smoking hole. "Holy crater, Batman!"
Maybe he should hire a "Professional Pilot?"

I heard the tail end of a report on the radio this evening that suggested both engines were out 1/4 mile from the threshold. Can't authenticate that, but it is a rumour going round the campfire.

Oh man, Oshkosh has got to be the most high exposure & embarrassing spot to have a landing mishap. Glad no one was killed. Yes, it was likely pilot error, but don't knock this guys piloting abilities just because he is a wealthy & fly's his own jet. Read the article, he has ant ATPL + over 4,000 hrs jet time & fly's his jet a few times a week. From what I've read about him, he takes he has a professional attitude towards everything, plus he would have been well trained for insurance. There are hundreds of guys out there who fly their own jets single pilot, and yes, it's more risky than having a professional crew of two, but shit can happen to anyone.

Look at the hot exhaust from engine #1 in the first picture of the crash sequence.cdnpilot77 wrote:I heard the tail end of a report on the radio this evening that suggested both engines were out 1/4 mile from the threshold. Can't authenticate that, but it is a rumour going round the campfire.

As much as I hate the idea of criticizing another pilot, especially this early after an accident and lacking an official report, I have to agree with Big Pistons Forever's observations.
Engine out or no engine out, this is an airplane with both engines almost on the center-line. He effectively lost control of his aircraft (a stall is a loss of control) on an uncomplicated approach in uncomplicated environmental conditions. Perhaps the venue and some desire to show-off (hot dog) are factors? Checked You Tube yesterday, but didn't find any videos on the approach and crash. Given that it is Oshkosh and the number of spectators, there must be one out there somewhere.
