Good float schools in Greater Vancouver? Low timer here-

Post by VVindShear »

Hi all I am 22 yrs old from Vancouver and I have chosen to take the bush flying route over instructing to try to get my start in this industry.
I will try to get a ramp to right seat job like so many others and I am now
looking for some quality float training to get my endorsement.

210 TT CPL/ME/IFR etc. -->> Low timer/ buttom of the food chain

Anyone who could provide recommendations on a good float training outfit in the lower mainland? Instructors names etc? Price or website?

Thanks!!

Check out Airhart in Kelowna. Granted its not on the coast but its probably the best in Canada for float training. Trevor has been at it for a long time and is a great guy to work with on it.

The best float instructor in the world is Dave Hamel at Fort Langley Air. I did my rating on the 180 and last I heard they were getting a Cub too.

I second that, they don't come any better old Dave Hamel out at fort Langley. From what i heard trevor at airhart got screwed by his "partners" so with him out of the picture I wouldn't go there.

Best of luck

Float rating with Dave in the 180 was the best 7 hours I have flown yet.

Dave takes flight instruction and really make you feel like you are a grass roots of aviation type pilot. Best training anywhere!

Yes, DH at Fort Langley Air is a good instructor and a good guy to talk to. However, I'm doing my 7 hours this week with the other instructor there. Unfortunately, DH lost his medical but he may get it back on the 20th of this month. Best luck to him.

Float Training

I'd agree I've learned more at Fort Langely in 20 hours than at my flying club! I HIGHLY reccomend Fort Langely. Luke Howard is also VERY VERY good and is an actual instructor. BOTH ARE EXCELLENT..YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

have to agree, Dave was a great instructor, nice plane to fly and nice location for a good price. I would recommend Fort Langley Air any time.
