Prayers & thoughts to the families...
I want to die like my grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming in terror like his passengers...

jeta1,jeta1 wrote:Your statement means a lot, and what hits home to me is the debate about pilots being compared to accountants, engineers and nurses in terms of their "professionalism" and union-ability [ie the College of Pilots debate]. Other than our brave military brothers in arms way, commercial pilots are part of one of the highest risk-of-death career there is. Just in the past couple of months we lost so many of our commercial brothers and sisters, we cant even keep up with the numbers. This Conair crash is just one more in the list, which will surely get longer between now and September's end let's say. Indeed death has become a common part of the piloting carrer; still, we never really think it will happen to us. It wont happen to me... are you kidding? To me? I have too many thousands of hours for this to happen to me!!?? Are you talkin to me...? to me?? to me??? No way Jose... it only happens to others... and those I read about n the papers... on avcanada... at the office... peacedirtpoorflyr wrote:My Condolences to the family and friends. It truly has been an unbelievable sad year. This is becoming all too common lately.
Your right too many of us believe it won't happen to us, can we all take more care and try a bit harder and lets make these two the last of the year! Lets all get home to our loved ones in one piece.
P.S this is not a wishful thinking, it can be done

Re: Conair Tanker Down
I had the very unfortunate duty of bucketing on the post-crash fire all day today, all around the wreck preserving it for the coroner and investigators and preventing spread up the mountain, certainly not something I was hoping to do when I woke up this morning. Eight hours of looking down on the wreck not knowing the names of the people involved but having friends who fly there, has a way of playing with your head. My thoughts go out to family, co-workers and friends.
Without posting unneeded details on here, we can all rest assured there was no suffering in this one. One second here, the next, gone. Eye-witness accounts are very detailed and should bring a quick explanation.
RIP

Terrible terrible terrible
I knew both ... my deepest and most heartfelt sympathies and condolences for the friends families and co workers.

Re: Conair Tanker Down
I was complaining in the chat last night about the campfire ban round these parts, and was rightly reprimanded for my selfishness. How could I have forgotten the unnecessary flights that are being prevented?
My sincerest sympathies to all those affected. Peace.

I've worked fires and shared bases with the Captain over the years. He was a true professional. A quite, thoughtful man. The air tankers community has lost a pillar. My heart felt condolences to all.

Re: Conair Tanker Down
I can't believe this, Tim has been flying air attack airplanes long before he was hired by Conair.
We was with the Flying Fireman in the mid seventies for many years.
In the late eighties he lived a few houses from me here in Nanaimo.
How sad to lose him.

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

Re: Conair Tanker Down
Are the convair's still owned by KFC? Or is it still a joint venture by Conair and KFC?
Re: Conair Tanker Down

Condolences to all the family and friends deeply affected by this tragedy. STL, knowing that people you've known and cared about and who have been taken from you unexpectedly did not suffer in their final moments is important, and I'm sure everyone here agrees when I thank you for that.

This tragic loss reminds me so much of the book by Ernest K. Gann....."Fate Is The Hunter."
Good-bye Tim, thank-you for your contribution to my aviation education.
This proves that if it can happen to someone as highly experienced as Tim Whiting, it can most assuredly happen to any one of us.
There but for the grace of God go us.

Sitting in Hotel, while away from Home...
Hearing of Brian on the News tonight.
Knew him well, met many times.. Heck He was in this room to visit not long ago.
My partner was here at the time and popped of a couple of shots of Him and another Friend.
So So sorry to loose Him, my heart is crushed for His Family.
Seeing his Wife on TV..Broke me, they are going to need all the prayers we can muster for them.
Too many friends have been lost like this..
Missing you already
