The Rum Thread.
So we have a Rum club.. basically a group of my childhood buddies (read: non pilots) that sit around on occasion, wax lyrical while enjoying some delicious sugarcane based bevvies. It got me wondering what all you rum drinkers on this board prefer.
I grew up drinking Whoods old navy rum. It was a staple in the household and what my father and all his cronies would gather and swig. Alas it is no longer avail. in the local LQ's or cold beer and wine retailers. A switch was then made to Captain Mo's dark. Theres still always a fresh supply at the parents place anytime I drop by.. but my tastes have changed..
We currently drink Cockspur or Appletons estate. Sometimes resorting to mount gay or bacardis amber if none of the prior are available.
Anyone have some reccomends? I've tried screech (thank you to my newfie buddies) and an expensive bottle of redrum.. Lets hear it all!!

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you!
Re: The Rum Thread.
My 2 favorites, both are hard to find in Canada but when in the islands they're as easy to find as water

gin isn't rum...gin is vodka infused with aromatics like orange peel, juniper berries, etc
Rum is straight sugar cane liquid that is fermented, distilled and aged

Depends how you drink it. If you add coke or any other mix then buy the cheap swill. I recently had a bottle of Four Square from Barbados given to me and that is pretty darn yummy with a splash of water or straight up. I have had numerous bottles over the past three visits to Cuba and they are all good Cuban style.

I always liked London Dock, the one you get in Newfoundland. That stuff is smooth, but at 100 proof it'll knock you on your ass if you're careless. Old Sam was a pretty good swill also.

A little bird told me that drinking rum will give you a whole belly full of puke.

I can second that. It is a fine rum and not overly pricey either. For the price, it is my favourite.Brewhouse wrote:Try Sailor Jerry's

El Dorado 5 year old. $25 a bottle and tastes great on the rocks or mixed with Coke. I tried the more expensive 12 or 15 year old El Dorado I forget which, but for the extra money it didn't taste any better.

If they don't have that at the LCBO, I just get Appleton's.

I have a hard time believing a thread of this much value and importance died so fast, and no one else has anything to add to it.

That is because all of us vodka drinkers had nothing to contribute.wrenchturner wrote:I have a hard time believing a thread of this much value and importance died so fast, and no one else has anything to add to it.

Success in life is when the cognac that you drink is older than the women you drink it with.
