Re: Zed Fares
ZED Fares are always ticketed by each employees respective airline. The only time another airline will ticket a ZED pass for an employee of another carrier, is if that airline is the contracted ticketing agent in a different country. For example, United Airlines at one point in time contracted with Thai Airways in Bangkok. Thai Airways represented United in Bangkok and had the authority to issue passes for United Employees. However this could only be done in Bangkok. A United employee could not go to Beijing and hope to get ZED passes from the Thai Airways Ticket Counter.
This is why all ZED passes are 100% refundable. You buy as many passes as you may require, and refund what you do not use. I know people who have spen $1500 in passes, but only used 2 passes in total and had $1200 refunded. This gives you the best chances of getting to your destination and home when you need to get home.

No, your own airline has to issue the Zed fares. For example at AC, you set up the Zed on the employee travel site and get a locator number. You then have to pick up the paper tickets at your local ticket counter. You then list yourself with the appropriate airline. Thats why you must purchase any Zeds before you travel. You can't just walk to Cathay in HKG and get a Zed.CanadaEH wrote:So one can't walk up to, for example, Cathay in HKG and get a ZED fare? It must be printed through WestJet somewhere WestJet can print them off?
The nice thing is you can buy a bunch of Zeds as back up and if you don't use them you can get them reimbursed when you get back.
Re: Zed Fares
Normally, you would be able to just order them online and pick them up from a WestJet ticket counter where they will print them out. (no YYC destinations desk involvement would be great). You can also refund them easily if you don't use them. They can also be purchased in quantity if you wanted them as back up/alternate routes to popular spots.

What's the turn around time on these tickets? I.E. Can you purchase them and print them off in one day? Are we going to be able to eliminate the two weeks or three weeks that we often need now?

Re: Zed Fares
Zed Fares are almost instant. You go to a ticket counter and it is issued on the spot. I think if the Destination desk will be handling the process at the start you will go to the destination desk and they will process the pass. If you live outside of Calgary then the only turn time is going to be the shipping of your passes... just until our CSA's are trained and ready to issue ZED passes.
I think it would be great that both CSA's and the Destination desk issue ZED passes because it would be great to not have to go to the Airport to get the pass if one is already at the Campus.

Things look official, was just on the ZED MIBA Member site which shows the list of members, and I see that WestJet is now listed as of September 17, 2010.

I hope they provide more information soon as I am planning a trip already.

Now that the fares are being restructured will parent fares on our own metal be reduced. My folks shouldn't have to pay more on WS than they do on US carriers!
