Porter Ramp Questions.

Post by Ditto110 »

Hi guys. Just wondering if anyone can answer a few questions about working for Porter as a rampie.

How are the schedules? Are they bid on by seniority? I'm wondering this because I'm going to be going to university part time, and if it's seniority based then I may as well forget a job with them.

Does anyone know the pay for a part timer?

How about the flight benefits?

If anyone knows anything about the above, I would be very grateful!

Don't know much about working on the ramp with them, but usually ramp openings are posted on their website.

Also - go by their headquarters and drop off a CV. The receptionist seemed quite friendly to walk-ins.

Good luck, thats a good way to get an 'in' with them.

Which base are you thinking of working at? If YOW or YTZ I can help answer those questions, but not sure how some of the other stations work.

No union as of yet so no bids for schedules. At YTZ it is 6 on and 3 off..rotating between mornings and afternoons. AFAIK all ramp positions at YTZ are fulltime, so you would have to go with shift trades. At YOW the majority is part time, and we had a few students that only worked weekends and picked up extra shifts during the week if they were able. Right now the only thing seniority gets you is that you are able to bump another employee off a flight.

Full and part time starts at $12/hr

Porter flight benefits kick in after 3 months, those on other airlines after 6 months (Virgin, Delta, WestJet, Qantas etc.)

If you need any other details PM me.
