182 on Skis?

Post by kevinsky18 »

Anyone ever heard of or seen a 182 on Skis?

I haven't but I have seen 206 and even a 150 on skis so I thought it might be possible.

Ive personally never seen one, but apparently it can be done. This is from another forum and the guy claims that he knows of 2 of them on straight skis, but none with retracable skis as the nose wheel attach point cant handle the stress of skis. I thought it was worth posting for you.

tahoe,

The single biggest problem with putting a 182 on skis is where the nosegear attaches. Skis inflict a LOT of loads to the landing gear, and that nose gear is firmly attached to your firewall. Bend that and you are looking at HUGE $$$

The 206 nose gear attaches to the engine mount. Bend that and it costs a lot but nothing like a firewall. And the engine mount attachment is stronger.

As far as performance goes, I know a couple of guys who run 182's on straight skis, and they do okay. They try to keep them loaded as far aft as possible.

The retractable skis are going to put that much more weight on the nose and nose gear, though, making it sort of a vicious circle.

Here is the link to the entire thread.. with a bit more discussion on STC`s that areavailable to strengthen the nose wheel attach point on the 182, similiar to the 206.I hope this helps u a bit. http://www.backcountrypilot.org/forum/v ... =32&t=2844

I have seen a C 206 here in Canada, on Fly lite 4000 hyd wheel skis.
If 4000s go on the C 206, I would think that Fly Lite 3000s , which go
on C 170 , C 180, and C 185, may work on the C 182 ?
If you checked with Wip Aire, they hold the STC I believe.

The Hyd setup is probably 1/2 the work ?
