Aviation International / Guelph Air Park

Post by fleet16b »

As of this a.m. , there is no fuel available at Guelph Airpark.
The fuel has always been handled by Aviation International but rumours are rife that they may be closing their doors :( .This is sad to hear as they are a good little flying school. ( I have no positive confirmation about whether or not this is true)
Anyone here know anymore about this :?:

If True , hopefully the owners of the Air Park will take over the fuel sales if Av. Int. closes it's doors.
 Maybe a credit card pump is the way to go

Just came back from GAP and a new shipment of fuel has been delivered so I guess they are trying to keep things going. :D
Yesterday one of the employees said the fuel would not be replenished so who knows whats happening :?

I for one hope business carries on at CNC4. I've done a little training there and it seems like Aviation Int'l is probably the better flight school in the area to do any kind of single engine VFR flying, too bad it was never really marketed that way. If they do close their doors, I wish the instructors all the best in finding work elsewhere.

That's what I want to hear, that they were busy and will continue to be. I finished my instructor rating there and in terms of quality people they certainly are. It has a great atmosphere to train and they are always friendly.

Thanks Aviation Int'l

It's true, they have seemed really busy in last few days .
In fact busier than usual. The impression at the Air Park is that this might be students in a hurry to use up their block times before they lose them if the place goes under.
As in all situations like this , the rumors run rampant all over the field.
The employees are saying much more than the school is trying to hold on.
It will be a sad day if they go under and will really change the atmosphere at GAP.

AVI is not done. Now that they have gotten rid of some of the dead weight that was dragging them down business has picked up. Customer service has improved and more students and renters are coming in. It's funny how bitter ex employees can be despiting digging their own grave!!!

I haven't been on this forum for a while so when I saw this thread today I went straight to AVI to see what was going on. I did my PPL there 22 years ago and used to work on the ramp while in university. They did have a "scare" but things have picked up and they say they are through the crisis. It may be a classic case of use it or lose it and I hadn't rented there for 2.5 years. So I booked up a currency check (haven't flown a 172 for a while) and plan to spend some money to help them out. I've been meaning to do some advanced training so now is as good as any time - even better for a night rating (early darkness but no snow yet.)

While I have not heard anymore about Aviation International, I have heard that Guelph Airpark is for sale.
I have received confirmation from the owners that the Airpark is indeed for sale. :o :(
It is listed as Industrial land and the asking price is 4.7 million. The online listing confirms this.
The owners state that unless they get the asking price, they simply won't sell.
I have been told (but cannot confirm) that the land is not actually in Guelph but is right on the border. Apparently this makes it harder to become a housing developement.
I have very limited knowledge of zoning laws etc
Hopefully some on the forum can shed some more light.
Overall I am saddened by this as Guelph is a great little Airport with many great tennants that support each other well.
The owners are also great people that have always fully supported aviation and the people at the Airport and I will be sad to see them give up ownership. I guess they feel it's time to move on.

Suer seems like little Airports are disappearing

As promised above, I followed through and completed both the night rating and the VFR OTT rating at Aviation International (appropriately, completed on the longest night of the year.) I'd recommend it as a good place to do basic or more advanced training or simply recreational flying. The school, aircraft, and airport are under utilized so you will find a very accommodating and friendly atmosphere that makes for a great place to concentrate on your training or enjoy your flying.
