Cost Analysis

Post by Sparksinthenightsky »

I'm looking for guidance into comparing similar sized engines / Power Output by different manufacturers (P&W and Garrett) for a cost analysis on future expansion of a client. If anyone knows a source where the cost per operating hour or equivalent maintenance costs for a standard inspection it would be greatly appreciated. I have tried talking to a few turbine shops however, I was unable to acquire sufficient information to make a proper report. Thank you again AvCanada community for your help.

You might wanna be more specific... at least in what power range are you talking about ? A TPE331-3 and a TPE331-14 are not gonna be the same.

Thanks Benwa,

Great point! I've been looking at the PT6A-42 but am unsure of the equivalent honeywell model for performance and SHP. Are there any machines other than the King Air A100 and B100 that are similar platforms in size with the two different power plant installs? (I am aware that the B100 and A100 have different performance and schematic numbers, but am more interested in the engine operating costs for the given platform as they are very similar). Thanks again for any input or information.

Check out Texas Turbines they do conversion of Otters and Cavarans from PT6s to TPE331s. I am sure they have cost analysis for the conversion. Of course take what they tell you with a grain of sand because they are selling a product.

See if you can get information about engine costs from operators that run tons of garrets eg. perimeter / bearskin vs operators that run tons of pt-6's

Is this the sort of thing you might be after?

http://www.conklindd.com/Page.aspx?cid=1120

It doesn't specify the specific engine being evaluated, but if you know which platform its on you might be able to work backwards off of this list. This company also seems to have software which may provide more details. [ https://www.conklindd.com//Page.aspx?ni ... view&id=33 ] I'm sure there is more companies out there, I just knew this one because I was looking for some similar data once.

Otherwise, you might talk with a company like this one or another one that does cost comparisons, or cost evaluations and purchase their services.

Hope it helps.

Zed you hit my question right on the head. I was dodging the question of aircraft specific because the client does not wish to divulge the expansion plans. This should give me a great starting point to start calling operations with both power plants and breaking down their hourly operating quotes into what is for profit, personnel and finally maintenance (in that order on purpose hahaha). Any other information or search idea would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try PWC and Honeywell directly? I'm not sure, but they might assist you as well...
