For my friend yycflyguy (facts about Jazz and the 757's)
Hi,
I was up in there today with someone who should know. The information I am providing is the best and most up to date I have access to.
The 757's, apparently, here is how it went down.
1-Thomas Cook did not renew the contract with Sky Services. (reason not specified)
2-No more work, no more Sky Service Airlines.
3-Jazz MEC heard that Thomas Cook was looking for another provider. Jazz MEC suggested to Thomas cook to take a look at Jazz.
4-Thomas Cook looked at Jazz.
5-Thomas Cook and Jazz sign a contract.
6-Less than 40 days before Jazz's first 757 flight.
This is the best I could get you! I have some more information for you if you so desire. PM me!

According to SeattlePI blog, the contract is for up to 11 Boeing 757's, starting on
Nov 1st/10 and renewable for up to five years. Canadian press reports deal for 6 B757's.
Aircraft will be branded Thomas Cook Airlines. Photo below photoshopped!!!

Nice photoshop. I like the call sign.
Re: For my friend yycflyguy (facts about Jazz and the 757's)
Jazz is going to do the first flight Nov. 1st, pilot and F/A training has started. The A/C will be in Thomas Cook paint and logo. This is more or less a trial period and if all goes well talks of 767's, A330's and several more 757's.

New uniform for the 57 pilots?
Re: For my friend yycflyguy (facts about Jazz and the 757's)
Apparently not, I'm told the Jazz Logo items of the uniform will be removed, for the time being at least.

Re: For my friend yycflyguy (facts about Jazz and the 757's)
TC has been looking to set up their own deal in Canada for awhile yet, they aproached Enerjet to form a partnership that would allow for the foreign ownership restrictions, however EnerJet "Shit the Bed" draging its feet on getting the deal done and Jazz stepped up and got the deal done.
The Jazz /Thomas Cook deal may be temporary if TC can do their own thing down the road, time will tell and good on Jazz for taking care of business.

Re: For my friend yycflyguy (facts about Jazz and the 757's)
If I did not see the 299 post count under your name I would have thought you were new. I guess your are trolling. As stated many times...we have status pay at Jazz. Does not matter what you fly...years of service is all that counts. The Capt pay ranges from $74.73 to $108.23 (one year to 16 years of service - from date of hire not upgrade to captain). This will go up slightly with the addition of the 757s.What is the salary for 757 capt?
"The ability to ditch an airplane in the Hudson does not qualify a pilot for a pay raise. The ability to get the pilots, with this ability, to work for 30% or 40% pay cuts qualifies those in management for millions in bonuses."

Just looking for an approximate yearly salary....not trolling...just wondering
No I'm not new. Not everyone is up to speed on the ins-and-outs of Jazz salary (or other airline salary for that matter)

Sorry to be a jerk, but use the search function. Status pay has been debated ad naseum on this forum. There is nothing more to write about it.

Re: For my friend yycflyguy (facts about Jazz and the 757's)
If Jazz want to grow the TCX flying, I'd suggest that their pilot group would have to start discussing how they're going to deploy pilots to the UK for the summer, and allow TCX pilots to fly their aircraft on Jazz's OC, in Canada, for the winter (they aren't Jazz's aircraft after all, they're winter surplus TCX aircraft doing TCCI flying in Canada for a few short months each year - that's it).. wrote:TC has been looking to set up their own deal in Canada for awhile yet, they aproached Enerjet to form a partnership that would allow for the foreign ownership restrictions, however EnerJet "Shit the Bed" draging its feet on getting the deal done and Jazz stepped up and got the deal done.

That will probably be the only way the project will see any ultimate longevity.
Look at what Sunwing and Canjet do (and what Skyservice Airlines and Canada 3000 did), Jazz will have to do that.
If they can't, this 757 stint will likely be relatively short lived. Anyone with any significant experience in the charter industry (on both sides of the Atlantic) already knows this. TCX is a charter airline (a decent one), and behaves like one. Learn to behave like one as well, and Jazz might stand a chance. Doesn't really matter how well they operate the aircraft (within reason), only matters how well they fit the business model - and the annual pilot exchange is a very large part of that, currently being missed by many east of 30W this winter.
Whatever happens, though - I'm sure everyone will enjoy themselves!
Good luck chaps. Happy flying.

The difference between Jazz and Sunwing and Canjet is that Jazz has aircraft and flying available to the 757 pilots in the summer as they will return to the RJ/705 flying that they left behind this fall.

Re: For my friend yycflyguy (facts about Jazz and the 757's)
And what about the expanding and contracting Thomas Cook pilot group. Where are they going to go?
It's reciprocal remember. It's not just about Jazz. Thomas Cook need pilots every summer, and need to get rid of pilots every winter. They are seasonal like almost every other charter airline. The exchange is not just about getting rid of aeroplanes, it's about shifting labour around on a seasonal basis. It's a two part problem (equipment and labour), and so far I only see Jazz addressing one part of the problem. So I'm suspicious of the arrangement lasting any great length of time.
Thompson (TUI) still do it (that's a major competitor of Thomas Cook). So, I just wonder how long Thomas Cook will be willing to miss out on that before they move on?
That was all my point was - not trying to stir the pot. I wish the Jazz pilot group the best of success, but they really don't fit the mold (so to speak). I hope they prove me wrong!
Good luck to everyone involved, I hope everyone gets out of it what they want (for a change).

Re: For my friend yycflyguy (facts about Jazz and the 757's)
I don't claim to be well versed in the seasonal market .. but from what i've seen so far Thomas Cook Canada Ltd. seems to be a new venture in the company, a spin off of Thomas Cook Ltd. so too speak.
With that being said .. and there being no layoffs on this end, why the redeployment to the UK? Since this season passed with no layoffs on the UK end, I don't see the need over there either? Seems pretty neutral really.

Re: For my friend yycflyguy (facts about Jazz and the 757's)
Actually there have been plenty of guys let go from Thomas Cook, their contracts all end on October 31st. The pilot group drastically expands in the spring (normally with the help of Skyservice), and contracts in the fall (normally helped by detachments to Skyservice).
TCCI isn't a new venture, as far as I'm aware - it's the result of past mergers/buyouts. Nothing's really new though.
Cheers.
