Re: Interviews
I think LOU 18 is history. A Jazz pilot would have no more advantage at getting hired than anyone off the street now.

Or disadvantage--depending on how you choose to look at it.

Re: Interviews
Dave Legge came into my class and did a question and answer period. One of the Jazz guys asked him if he could explain the massive disparity between the PFO rate of Jazz candidates and off the street guys. Dave said that he gets that question a lot, and the rates were within 2% of each other. So as much as Jazz guys like to think they've been hard done by, they didn't have things worse than anyone else. I personally think that maybe it just contrasts to previous hiring where the regional guys saw a massive advantage.

Re: Interviews
A $37000 lottery.Getting into AC is like winning the lottery!!
With the experience you guys have you must be making a decent salary? How do you guys plan to survive financially for the first few years at AC? How long will it take to get back to your current pay?
Don't mean to sound disrespectful. Just hoping there are ways to deal with the shortfall that I hadn't considered. Always wanted to work at AC but haven't applied because I didn't think I could afford to.
Best of luck
JDL
Re: Interviews
One of the interview questions I've heard of is, "Do you know the starting salary?".
Ha!
So if they're asking this, they obviously know it's crap. Has anyone asked them WHY it's so low? Why do you guys think it's this low?

Re: Interviews
and the answer is, "because pilots keep coming, and Air Canada can continue fill the junior seats with that starting wage".
the new hire pay will never change at Air Canada so long as Air Canada can continue to attract and hire pilots to do the job for peanuts. If only the pilots stop coming, and/or refused to work for those wages, then and only then might the new hire wage be improved, but with 4000 plus applicants and someone always will to work for less, it will never happen.....

Re: Interviews
Just some info...
If you do get an interview, make sure you understand behavior based interviewing. If you don't understand the process, you will likely not do well.
Google it.

How do you know what airplanes AC is hiring onto when the bid hasn't even been released yet?ram wrote:New Hire Courses Scheduled for November & December.

Re: Interviews
Just for clarification is YYZ and YVR the training location or the base of the new hires?
Re: Interviews
All initial ground school training is done in YYZ.
When the simulator phase begins, you may do some in YVR depending on which aircraft you are assigned to, but the majority of Sim is done in YYZ as well.

Re: Interviews
No, interviews are on this week and beyond, it's not time to panic if you haven't heard anything yet.
Re: Interviews
For the first group it looks like it will be a split...EMJ FO's based in YYZ and 767 RP's based in YVR....groundtoflightdeck wrote:Just for clarification is YYZ and YVR the training location or the base of the new hires?
Training could be in either YYZ or YVR...Likely YYZ, as mentioned.
Re: Interviews
Ok sounds like a little confusion here, some say YVR and now no YVR. Does anyone have the straight goods?
Also does anyone know how many people they will be interviewing this round?

Re: Interviews
Latest Training plan shows a course of 4 NEW-HIRE VR -767 RP's slated for Nov 29'th ...I guess it's possible that the course will be run in YVR with YYZ based pilots...not likely, but possible!Sultan wrote:No new hires for YVR this time round. It's all YYZ.

Re: Interviews
This is how it works
the bid showed 51 vacancies. 23 of which are in yvr on the 767rp list. this means there are vacancies that curent pilots can bid for as well. meaning and I guarantee that 23 or more yyz or yul pilots are bidding for yvr base so will fill those spots leaving 23 openings in yyz or yul combined witht he already 20 yyz 767rp spots.
so when the bid is published it will show up to 43 new hires into emj fo and 767rp spots in yyz. so unless no one from yyz and yul bid for yvr base in the last bid there is no chance of getting assigned a position there. its all on seniority.
hope that helps.

Re: Interviews
Actually the training dates that came out Oct 5th show YVR B767 RP's starting class in November. Those are spots that no one has bid and therefore new hires will go to the B767 in YVR on the initial class.
The other course is for YYZ EMJ FO's.
These are the positions for the new hires in the first group.

Re: Interviews
how can that be when the bid results haven't been released? I have read the training sched, but that can be revised when the results come out.
Re: Interviews
No new hires for YVR. A revised training plan is being loaded into aeronet portal as we speak.

Re: Interviews
In the past when we were hiring, the aircraft course dates in the training plan often showed new hire when the names had not been assigned through bid. Once the bid results had been posted the plan was updated with the names added/changed if necessary. Give it a week and the results will likely be out giving everyone a better idea of where the openings are. Those training plans/dates are updated regularly between bids. Just food for thought.
