Homage to those that taught us…

Post by KAG »

Over a few drinks I was just reminiscing with my roomy about the “glory days” of when we were students - those in our class and those that taught us. Back in the day, as much as I complained about things beyond my control, they were as one instructor put it, the “most fun you’ll have flying.” …He wasn’t kidding.

I would like to thank:

Steve Sawler - For pushing me when most would have given up (I was a nightmare student). If it weren’t for that phone call when I walked away, I probably would not be where I am today.

Mohamad Rashid – you taught me to be picky and always strive for a higher level of excellence.

Danny Forsyth – For my Multi Training, and the first instructor to actually treat me like a “pilot” rather than just another student.

Charley “.” Owens…Even though you didn’t teach me directly, you were cool as sh!t.

And to Philip “flipper” Ripol – “Hello McFly”… Yes someone was home…

Thanks fellas for teaching more than just attitudes and movements, thanks for doing an outstanding job.

Cheers.

For me, only one stands above all others, the late Ken Micheals from Skyways at Langley, BC.

Kudos to the instructers and pilots that i have flown with that have allowed me to be the pilot i am today!!!

Chris O, Dave B, Larry S, Henry S, you have no idea how much knowledge and good sense you have brought to this little nogan of mine!!! Not just flying skills but personal attributes as well. I would be pleased to be half the pilot that you guys are!!! There are of course others but you are the few that stand out of the bunch.

Thank you all!!

One of the finest of all in Regina.

God rest his soul - I know he still looks down on me and makes things right for me. He must - -

David John Brophy - da faddah - the finest Instructor and mentor that anyone who met him knew.

I still miss him from when he passed away, ironically, on St. Patricks day in 1994.

You must imagine the shock and awe I experienced, reading this thread.

It's easy to get the impression from reading this site that everyone here crawled out of the womb, eyes still closed, with an ATPL in one hand, and a PPC in the other. It's easy to get the impression that no one has ever taught anyone here anything, and by gosh it shows. Just this weekend I received considerable harrassment from a real *sshole of an old pilot because I used to instruct, years ago - I was tainted forever because of it, according to him. What part of "f*ck off" do you not understand?

In the USA, being a CFI is not something to be ashamed of. Canada is such a screwed up country. It's run by and for the benefit of thieves, weirdos and liars, and flight instructors are considered to be on the same social scale as repeat pedophile offenders.
