50 Canadian Air Marshalls being reassigned .. .. ..

Apparently I haven't paid attention to the news, because I didn't even know we had air marshalls!! According to the Montreal Gazette 50 of the 200 RCMP Air Marshalls who travel on Canadian flights out of Vancouver/Toronto/Ottawa/and Montreal are being reassigned to other duties because of budget cuts.

Can you imagine, every day you fly somewhere, packing yer gun, hoping some yahoo will try to hijack an a/c so you could shoot him? EVERY DAY!? The real story is, why hasn't one of these marshalls gone postal and shot some AC flight attendant? Or some gum-snapping moron who hasn't washed for a week?

Sounds like my definition of hell, actually. When I pop my clogs, instead of stoking I will be a sky marshall. Makes me hope for a very loooong life indeed.

I'm reminded of a Mad Magazine comic strip from the 70's in the height of all the aircraft high-jackings in the USA.

First scene is the full passenger compartment of a Boeing 747.

All the passengers are checking out all the other passengers suspiciously.

Then all the passengers are showing signs of sweat, like something is about to happen.

Suddenly every passenger jumps up with a knife/gun/or bomb - all at the same time yelling, 'This is a high jacking', followed by the next scene where everybody sits back down like nothing ever happened.
