I looked at the web cam, looks to be something off the north side of the runway near the button of 08 at about 17:14GMT. Cannot really tell who or what but Trucks start driving down the runway shortly after that. Snow covered runway. fingers crossed

Re: Kirby Lake Crash Oct 25th
Global News is reporting that STARS was called off because they were no longer medically needed. That sounds like good news.

Northern Alberta plane crash kills 1
One person is dead after a plane crashed Monday morning south of the northern Alberta town of Conklin.
The twin-engine, turbo-prop Beech Air King 100 aircraft, operated by Kenn Borek Air, is reported to have been carrying between 10 to 13 people.
The plane left Edmonton's City Centre Airport Monday and was enroute to the Kirby Lake airstrip when it crashed just outside Conklin around 11:25 a.m. MT.
Four people are believed to be seriously injured.
Four ground ambulances, two air ambulance helicopters and two air ambulance airplanes are on their way to the crash site.
Conklin is about 250 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
More to come

Interesting! The King Air 100 I flew some years ago was set up to take ten persons, including the two pilots. Eight big pax meant a careful weighing of baggage to stay within weight and balance limits, depending on fuel requirements.

fingers crossed that the reported fatality is false. I worked on most of the 100's, wonder which one it is.
Here's hoping for good news, instead of the reported bad.

EDMONTON — One person is dead and nine others are in stable condition after a plane carrying employees of BP Canada crashed in northern Alberta on Monday morning.
All nine survivors are now in non-life-threatening condition and on the way to hospitals in Edmonton, Fort McMurray and Lac La Biche, according to Alberta Health Services.
The plane was carrying two pilots, one contractor and seven employees of BP Canada, a subsidiary of the global energy company. The plane was taking the employees to the Kirby Natural Gas project near Conklin for a crew change.
BP Canada would not confirm if the deceased was one of their employees.
“We don’t yet have information on the cause of the crash,” said spokeswoman Melanie Ostopovich.
The accident occurred near the Kirby Lake airstrip, which is owned by BP Canada, southeast of Conklin, said Capt. Wayne Sinker, with the Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton, Ont.
The plane crashed just before it reached the runway at Kirby Lake, said Chris Krepski, a spokesman with the Transportation Safety Board.
RCMP have said the plane was in the process of landing at the time.
Kenn Borek Air, an airplane charter company that operates out of Alberta, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories, has stated that one of its planes was chartered by BP, but it has released no other details and has asked for privacy.
Two patients went to Fort McMurray by helicopter, and another two went by ground ambulance to Lac La Biche. Fixed-wing planes took two more to Edmonton and three to Lac La Biche.
Wendell Umble, CEO of Alberta Central Airways, said they were called to respond to the accident. “We got the call and then one hour later we had one doctor, five medics and stretchers enough for everyone at the scene.” The company sent two Twin Otters from the Lac La Biche airport to the scene.
A Hercules aircraft from Winnipeg with a search-and-rescue squadron on-board was also sent, but it turned around mid-trip because it was not needed. Sinker said the Rescue Co-ordination Centre was alerted when the plane’s emergency beacon was activated around 11:20 a.m.
The Transportation Safety Board is dispatching two investigators, who should be there by Tuesday morning, Krepski said.
“The plane is substantially damaged,” he said.
The twin-engined plane, a Beechcraft King Air 100, left from Edmonton’s City Centre Airport on Monday morning, Krepski said.
The airport it was headed toward has a 4,920-foot (1,500 metre) airstrip, according to the Canada Flight Supplement, the national airport directory.
“Up in that corner of the world, that’s pretty significant runway,” said Tom Hinderks, executive director of the Alberta Aviation Museum and Edmonton Aviation Heritage Society. “You could put a 737 down on that. That’s a ton of room for a King Air.”
The circumstances of the crash remain unknown.
But Hinderks said the King Air has a really good safety record. He also said the plane is equipped to deal with bad weather, “unless it’s something really, really extreme.
“Mother Nature is always the boss when you’re flying and sometimes she does things no one expects.”

One of the pictures on the CBC report shows the cockpit is completely destroyed.

Deepest sympathies to all involved.
If anyone knows the pilots involved, a PM would be appreciated.

Some interesting details reported on the 6pm CFRN news.
Icing and low vis and ceiling reported. Pilots activated ELT 1 hour into the flight "before performing an emergency crash landing".

Heard about this as we were out flying today. Very very sad news indeed. Condolences to friends and family.

Sometimes I hate this business I'm in. This is one of those times.
Deepest sympathies to the family. I had a wonderful time working with him. Hell of a guy. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for the other friend and the rest of the people injured in this accident.

Pictures on the news showed people boarding aircraft C-GHOC. Not sure if this was the 100 that went down. Anyone confirm?

HOC isn't based in Calgary. The chances of them capturing the passengers from this flight on film are slim, so it was almost certainly file footage.ren wrote:Pictures on the news showed people boarding aircraft C-GHOC. Not sure if this was the 100 that went down. Anyone confirm?

This incident has saddened us all and we wait to see what the cause of this accident is. My sympathies go out to the family of the fallen and prayers for a quick recovery for the survivors.
On another note, how can they activate the ELT an hour into the flight when the duration of that flight is no more 40 min!
