Air Georgian Pilots - Halifax

Post by full_flaps »

Hi All,

do all new Georgian pilots start in Halifax or is it a lottery? I also have heard some guys who are based in YYZ are transferred to Halifax. Anyone have info on how long these transfers are for?

Base assignments depend on seniority. If we need pilots in YHZ we send anyone who has a bid in; if nobody does we send the most junior pilot(s). They stay in Halifax until they have the seniority to bid back to Toronto (if they so desire) - the time that takes is totally dependent upon industry movement.

I heard that Georgian is hiring Seneca students right out of school. Any truth to this?

Actually as an f/o it is a good base, for a number of reasons
1. it is not YYZ
2. Senior captains with good knowledge to impart
3. real weather, your next sim will be easy "go around max power flap 17", you will have done it probably 10 times for real
4. No customs
5. with all the junior guys sliding in it will be easy getting a good sched, within 2-3 months
6. Wait for the Captain upgrade till bidding back to YYZ
7. Montreal Saturdays
8. It is Not YYZ

Yes, we do take a small number of FOs direct from Seneca.

To all new possible new hires, remember that you don't get paid to taxi planes around at the start/end of your pairing, or during your 2-3-4 hour break during the day.

No GGN day is complete without logging a few KMs of taxiing mileage.

Genetic Jack Hammer,

Air Georgian pilots certainly are paid to taxi aircraft as required; your statement is ridiculous. Typically an Air Georgian crew will have to reposition an aircraft at least once a day and often twice or more. As for the breaks, many Company pairings have them as that is the reality of working the schedule that we are given by Air Canada. If any individual finds these duties to be too demanding they certainly do not have to come to work for, or remain at, Air Georgian (we have no training bond). Having said that, there are many operators in the 703-704 world that demand far more from their pilots and offer similar or lower compensation.

Hi DBGGN,

Do you know if Air Georgian will be looking for Hawker 800 pilots in the near future?
Will they take only pilots with current ppc or also pilots with experience on the hawker, but not more current.
Thank you

So how does taxiing planes factor into ones salary? Example, suppose YYZ is hit with a snow storm and taxiing from long beach to the north end takes and hour, give or take.

Air Georgian pays pilots a salary to operate it's aircraft within the limits set out in the Collective Agreement; that includes repositioning taxis.

As for the Hawker, we are looking for ppc'd pilots to be based in Toronto.

First rule about the Halifax base......Don't talk about the Halifax base.
