The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Ontario Provincial Police, requires an individual to provide, plan, lead and manage the OPP Aviation Services Aircraft Maintenance Program internally and externally, which is responsible for the development, review and implementation of aircraft maintenance standards for the OPP aircraft operations. To oversee and ensure the maintenance, repair and overhaul of the air fleet, ensuring its airworthy condition safe for flight. To manage, coordinate, provide leadership and oversight to a highly technical, federally licensed and decentralized maintenance team to ensure safe and cost effective delivery of quality maintenance services airbases located throughout the province.


What we are looking for: Position requires an Air Maintenance Engineers M1 License or higher and meet the PRM qualifications in accordance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and the CBAA. Position requires frequent province wide travel.

Extensive knowledge of the Aeronautics Act, Air Regulations, Air Navigation Orders, and CARS is required combined with comprehensive knowledge of the Maintenance Policy and Procedures Manual and OPP Aircraft Maintenance Schedule and their application to a diverse fleet of fixed & rotary wing aircraft. Job requires knowledge of staff management practices, team leadership skills and administrative procedures in order to supervise staff, implement conflict resolution, and represent the Section in discussions and at meetings for staff located at a variety of locations throughout the province. Working knowledge of the government's financial management processes and budgeting practices and of tendering and contracting procedures. Knowledge of human resources management to manage strategic long term and short-term HR problems, issues and plans, to provide supervision and to develop performance development plans and feedback to assigned staff. Knowledge of broad managerial skills to plan a highly complex maintenance program for a multi million dollar fleet of aircraft operating in a diverse environment on a wide range of OPP programs and to understand and implement government and ministry objectives. Ability to plan, organize, direct, coordinate, monitor and evaluate human, financial and material resources in order to achieve a wide variety of client driven program objectives and to supervise staff at multiple locations throughout the province. Job requires a good working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and those Regulations made under the Act that applies to the workplace and the work being performed. Knowledge of the MGS Health and Safety Directive and other corporate and ministry specific health and safety policies and programs. Knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health and safety in the workplace. Familiar with the ministry work-related accident reporting process and the injury management strategy. Job requires oral and written communication, consultation presentation and negotiation skills to communicate on technical and administrative matters with regulatory agencies, senior government; OPP personnel and all levels of staff. Ability to provide technical remedies and/or solutions to maintenance staff. Incorporates corrective action to avoid reoccurrence of problems or issues (e.g. resolving reoccurring defects or deficiencies) and plans for contingencies impacting aircraft availability. Ability to identify reoccurring aircraft defects or deficiencies and to analyze these deficiencies or defects using all available manufacturer product information, standard practices, diagnostic equipment, integrate schematics and external technical support systems and to assess aircraft, components and parts condition for continuation in service or rejection. Ability to pass OPP background security investigation.

oh im sure the pension plan and other perks more than make up for any perceived low pay.

I E-mailed them and said I would do it for 40% less than advertised....in true aviation fashion :wink:

For what they are asking for in that job description, yes...I feel the pay is too low.

However, as SeptRepair has stated...the pension plan is probably pretty sweet and I'm sure that the job security is about as good as it can get in this industry.

One thing I have learned as I get older...job security is much more important than pay rate.

Folks, lets compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges here!
A CEO of a large company in difficult times doesnt last too long , makes unpopular decisions and leaves with a big wad of $$$ to the tune of millions.

This job entails being PRM/ DOM for a provincewide array of diversified a/c , liasing with many AMOs departments, police forces, unions and the government ,,making unpopular decisions and being in impossible positions often ,,,, job security isnt there, burnout is ,,,,I think $500-600,000 may be a better wage for the responsibilities and the bullcrap one would have to put up with !! :roll:
