That didn't take long

Air Canada (AC.B-T3.560.133.79%) will be imposing a $20 one-way fee on consumers who check a second bag on domestic flights, matching a move by rival WestJet Airlines Ltd. (WJA-T12.88-0.12-0.92%)
The new Air Canada charge will apply to flights on or after Jan. 19, on economy-class bookings made starting Thursday.
Last week, WestJet announced its own $20 one-way fee on second checked bags across its network in North America and the Caribbean.
Air Canada already has a $30 one-way charge in place on second bags checked in for transborder routes into the United States, and a $50 one-way fee for Canada-Europe routes.
On Wednesday, Air Canada said it will be aligning its luggage policy with “prevailing industry practices,” noting its new $20 one-way fee will also apply to economy-class flights to the Caribbean, Costa Rica and Mexico.
Montreal-based Air Canada added in a statement that “the fee for a second checked bag will not apply to Air Canada Prestige, Elite, Super Elite members or Star Alliance Silver and Gold members. Executive Class and Executive First customers continue to receive an allowance of three checked bags on all flights, regardless of destination.”
WestJet has estimated that its bag fee could affect 860,000 one-way trips, or roughly 5 per cent of its annual traffic. The first check-in bag remains free.

Re: That didn't take long
not insulting just so you know because you asked.
"luggage that they lose"
"luggage that they lose"
Re: That didn't take long
They do actually.
Friend had their bag lost... ahem, sorry... Westjet doesn't lose bags, they get "delayed"
So anyway, their bag was "delayed."
The next day they get a phone call "OK, your bag is here now. It's $20 / day until you pick it up."

Re: That didn't take long
Really? Your "friend" told you that?
Actually, AC delivers "delayed" bags as you call it, right to your house, hotel, cottage, etc.
Re: That didn't take long
Sorry if it wasn't clear. I was talking about Westjet.
I thought I made that clear when I mentioned Westjet in my post.
I've also had issues with AC. I understand that losing bags is bound to happen with hundreds of bags on a flight, and hundreds of flights a day. It's a fact of life.
The funny (funny odd, not funny haha) thing is that when my bag was lost on AC, I specifically told them to call me before delivering, as I wasn't going home, I was going to a friends for a few days. A couple days later I got a call... saying that my bag would be at my local airport in an hour, and driven to my house shortly after that. Great, I'm only a 5 hour drive from my bag now.

Re: That didn't take long
Ten years of traveling stand-by (both AC and WJ)- I learned if you're on passes you simply cannot count on your bags arriving with you (either before or after but never with!) - so I learned to travel with a rollerboard and a laptop case. Never had an issue again
Still do.
Still do.

...and the best way to do that is buy an Air Canada carry on suit case. In fact if I'm not mistaken there's a sale on right now. Once you have the same luggage as the cabin crew they can't tell you it's too big and will need to be checked. And it really is big enough for a week on the road...
Re: That didn't take long
I don't think that will work. What the public can buy is different than what the employee's are issued!co-joe wrote:...and the best way to do that is buy an Air Canada carry on suit case.
