Post by Invertago »

Just wondering what schools are charging these days for aircraft / sims. (Seems most websites are out of date) so, please post schools name and fleet prices and any surcharges etc.
Thanks

Duchess $344 dual including fuel surcharge

Thanks all who post :)

Hedley,

How does the club even break even?
On hour 172, we charge $135/hr and pretty much break even.

Gas $50/hr
Maintenance $30/hr
Engine reserve $10/hr

Insurance $5700/yr
Lease, etc.

All the assets (aircraft, hangars, FTU office space) are paid for, and low overhead costs. The General (CFI, AP) and me (PRM, alt CFI, AP) aren't exactly drawing huge salaries, either. But both of us believe that an active flight school is an essential part of a healthy small airport. Without it, the supply of new pilots dries up and the airport starts to decline, even if COPA doesn't agree with us.

You're not going to get those prices in downtown Toronto, or downtown Vancouver, or even downtown Ottawa.

The very best thing about flight training at a small airport is no time $$$ wasted taxiing or waiting in line for takeoff, or flying to and from the practice area. When I give aerobatic instruction in the Pitts, the aerobatics commences one minute after takeoff - we are well above 2,000 AGL by then. Very efficient.

I agree with Hedley... Sometimes driving the distance to a cheaper location is worth the savings.. And who wants to fly 10NM (ONE WAY) or more to a practice area, when you can get there almost instantly.

Hedley,

Good for you guys. I am of the same belief, and I try to instill the same mentality at our club. Our club runs very similar, but we're stuck with a pretty high lease rate for the hangar and airplane.
