CARA Truck vs. A380?
Saw lots of flashing lights around Emirates tonight. One of the rampies told me a Cara scissor truck somehow ended up coming down on top of the wing. Any one else got any info? Was Peter McKay driving it?

Re: CARA Truck vs. A380?
I wasn't around when it happened but I was working last night. At 2230 I noticed the plane had not left, despite usually having a departure time of around 2130. The catering truck by R2 looked a bit slanted (upwards) but I didn't think anything of it. Next I hear some guy saying a catering truck hit it. A few people thought that the hydraulics had failed (which could be the reason why it was tilted). My guess is the lifts gave out and it collapsed onto the wing fairing or (hopefully not), the driver lowered the box too soon. Apparently a crane was required to lift the truck off the wing. By 0300 it was parked over near the old T2 prop gates. It looks like the main lower deck galley is accessed through the door in question
I can't imagine how the driver of that truck felt. My heart would have dropped through to China.

Nothing cleans a dirty plane like 100LL!

Wasn't Cara, it was SkyChefs.
One of the Emirates guys told me that there was indeed an equipment failure on the truck. Wasn't the drivers' fault, but it scared the crap out of him... he thought the truck was going over, and he escaped out onto the wing!

Can anyone please confirm whether or not any crew meals were damaged/lost in this incident? I'd hate to see Cara's delicious crew meals go to waste.

Anybody know the status of this A380, and how long it might take to fix? I wonder if it will be Air Canada doing the work?

Currently parked off the Echo gates over by the old East Beach. No word on repairs, but I doubt it'll be our guys doing the work. Probably EK and/or Airbus guys will be flying in to inspect and fix the beast.

I saw them sucking up used deicing fluid the other day. So don't worry, there will be plenty new crew meals available if any were lost.

The 380 is now at the old infield terminal. Damage apparently was structural- 3 ribs.
Airbus engineers are onsite now and have set up a tent like canopy over the damaged wing area. They are shuttled to and from their hotel to the work location by bus. We were told February for completion but talk is cheap.

Anyone wanna take a stab at what this particular "oops" will cost, when all is added up?

I wonder if the Sheik will have to sell any of his slaves...oops, I mean servants to help cover the cost.

Halal refers to how the food was prepared...under supervision and using Islamic required steps...You or I would not be able to tell the difference in taste...I guarantee it! Other foods (pork specifically) are "Haram" or forbidden, same as Kosher...

I doubt the Sheik will have to sell anything. I bet there is a catering company/ insurance company out there dumping a brick. Nothing airbus does is cheap. I wouldn't be surprised if the fix is just to ferry it home for a new wing.HavaJava wrote:I wonder if the Sheik will have to sell any of his slaves...oops, I mean servants to help cover the cost.
