Even after learning of Hamman's deception, the American Medical Association was going to let him lead a seminar that had been in the works, altering his biography and switching his title from "Dr." to "Captain" on course materials. It was canceled after top officials found out.

It has been sometime now that we have to assist all kind of stupid seminar in all field. Session where an actor plays in front of everybody and try to boost his own ego with easy jokes, to which everybody will laugh because this is the accepted rule. We all have been to this kind of seminar, therapy group where the rule is to say at the end: "the show, sorry the seminar was really interesting and I learnt a lot of thing tonight on their colorful powerpoint presentation blablabla", all of that with a smile and some stars in the eyes. It makes me laugh, each time. I want to say wake up you people! Now when those seminar speak about CRM it is close to a Stephen King nightmare with a clown that is more frightening than friendly: "if you don't sleep, you drink vodka during all the flight and insult all your team when you arrive at work, tell your F/O to shut up and put some extra ice directly from your fridge on the wings of the airplane, it is not good for safety, look at my powerpoint-made red line that rises just there blablabla...." When do we wake up? Are those people actually paid to tell us that? And what about their statistics: welcome in the world of Alice, where even a rabbit has 100% chance to change your life.
Give me a brand new airplane, a good roster, a good salary, the very best training in simulator and take back your stupid seminar that is an insult to my brain, I want to tell the guy/organization each time.
Seminars are a new religion, maybe an ideology, and each time I see those clowns explaining me their science, I cannot help but think of Tom Cruise in Magnolia giving its show about girls, you can feel all the desesperate emptiness of this modern church: seminars.
No wonder you don't even have to be a professional to lead a seminar, any bullshit are being said will be received as a priest/psychologist gold advice that will change/save the life of the brainwashed audience.

I see you have attended some TC seminars. You forgot to mention the survey cards handed out at the end, that no one in their right mind would ever write in a critical comment. And then the overwhelmingly positive survey cards ae used as proof of its success and to continue on with them.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but it was not going anywhere anyway..all this doctor/pilot stuff was going to give me a heart attack, and well....who would you go to for help?

I had a buddy who attended one of those mandatory Tc seminars. Asked him how it was. Piece of Crap was the reply. they just spouted the mantra and showed where to get TC resources..Expense for us (the company), and expense for the tax payers...Then he mentioned the survey cards..He was aksed if he put those comments on the card. His reply...Are you nuts? there were six of us there. Telling them the truth would be a career ender....True story...sad, but true.

Now back to the original thread.. You would think it would be diffiuclt to pull off. Would you wear a Britling aviators watch or a rolex doctors watch? Nylon flight uniform of wool cardiologist's suit.. Drink fine wine, or steal beer left on the table. A very complex deception in my opinion.

This is not the first time I have heard of this sort of thing happening. It is because of this sort of thing that a company is required to physically see, and in most cases, photocopy a new hires documents.
I read of an interesting case where 3 pilots, a company check pilot and an FAA inspector were conducting a monitored line check on a Boeing 727 crew. While discussing an incident where an airline pilot did not have a pilots licence, the FAA type asked for licences and the senior training captain/check pilot did not have an ATPL. Flunked a check ride or exam early in his career and just never bothered to re-test. I have also read about people who have impersonated doctors, lawyers, university professors and airline pilots. All you need to do is study the dictionary and a thesauris to get the right words and you are in.
Years ago I met a chap in Edmonton who liked to tell tall tales. At the time, there was discussions in the papers about a company in Nevada that was going to bring patients to Edmonton for selective surgery to bypass the long waits in the USA. At that time, there was a hospiltal going to be closed down and this company was going to buy the place. Anyway, this character let everyone believe he was the "front man" for the air ambulance company and he was quite believable. He then told me he was going to let them use his Challenger 601 3A because he had 3 of them and only work for 2. Well. I knew right away this was BS but because I was just a spectator, I listened and the stories got wilder and wilder. It was actually quite funny, except the City of Edmonton believed him and were stuck for 70 grand before they hauled him off to the funny farm.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

I'm kinda glad these doctors got a taste of their own medicine (pun intended!). For the longest time we have all had to deal with doctors who pretend they're pilots.

Right on.
Those seminars, escpecially when it comes to human factor/CRM, are an answer to last century challenges: multiple engines, multiples failure, multiple crew in the cockpit to coordinate (navigator, radio, pilots, engeneer/mechanic...), lack of airport (or aircraft like TCAS...) equipment like deicing...
This century challenges are so different: low salaries, lack of motivation, low cost companies, rise of fuel which imply cutting maintenance cost...
All blabla that doesn't speak right about hard/real training, salaries, equipment are at the best outdated comments, at the worse ideology. That is not because we tell people to be safe that they will be, even in communist countries it doesn't work that way. If by coincidence they are (safer), better to look at the improvement of the engine/maintenance/equipment this past last half century than beleiving that in the past, before the seminars reign, human beings didn't value their own life or were stupid enough to think that an argue within the crew will be beneficial for safety.

Beaver, I reacted after I followed the links and read the two articles, and it does speak about this pilot leading medicine seminars. After what I have seen about seminars, I am not even surprised.

All right it may have drifted a bit too much I have to agree.

Apparently not. But at least can we try or at least pretend to try to speak about the subject?

Like seminars, lack of professionalism, aviation, medecine...
