The 800 hours is actually an experience requirement (as I have been told) rather than additional training as reported, but it certainly will change the dynamics of career paths, and hopefully will lead to a better compensation package. the airlines, of course, are apparently working hard to bring in the mulit-crew license...it does seem the FAA is not in agreement with that, at least at this point.

I wouldn't put too much faith in what O'Leary says. He comes up with all kinds of nonsense every few months in an effort to drum up publicity; standing seats, pay to use toilets, first officers cross trained as flight attendants, etc. It gets people talking about Ryanair. Besides, he makes money off his first officers! To join Ryanair you have to fund a type rating through them yourself at an inflated cost.trey kule wrote:And for those who dont believe technology is coming the owner of Ryan Air publically commented that they want to do away with the first officer postions altogether.
I wonder if CVR monitoring will fly in Canada since we have stricter privacy laws?

Excellent Article.
I agree with more training, less duty and no portable electronic devices below 10 000 MSL.
Listening to conversations in the cockpit, I have a problem with that. I don't think it's ethical.

The trouble with my life is that I do not think I am cut out to sit behind a desk.

The plain (plane) fact in the US of A the minimum license requirement for part 121 will be an ATP and there will be an increase on a sliding scale to hours required and how to obtain the license. Credit will be given from top to bottom for folks who learned to fly in the Military - flight college - flight school and finally line time building in that order which could turn into several thousand hours. It will certainly change the way people achieve their ATP - can you spell deep pockets boys and girls -- maybe those instrutors will finally make a reasonable living --
