Maybe this should be a new topic, but I think basing the conclusion that a company is short on a certain position (Dispatcher, FO etc) solely on AvCanada or similar job sites is a bit futile. I completely understand where it is coming from though. Before I got into the industry I did the same thing. Now i've come to realize that a good company does not need to hire externally and will rarely post job ads publicly. Even if they do require an external hire, they will first pull from their massive pool of online applications. I don't personally work for Calm air but I do know a bit about the company.

Any thoughts?

If they didn't hire externally where would they get the pilots from?

I have been at Calm Air for about 10 years now.

Great company, great schedule, good pay. Pilot group has a good working relationship with management.

Awesome place to work.

Schedule will depend on your base and aircraft type. 10 guaranteed days off per month ( usually more days off per month, though!)
Good vacation time, and 10 stat holidays per year.

Jump seat agreements with AC, Jazz, WJ, and lots of other US carriers.

Lots of guys who have "moved on" to bigger airplanes still say CA was the better place to work (as far as schedule, etc)

keep your head down and watch where you step, some of the capt crew can get real nasty and make poor decisions about new comers careers and futures

Well guys from perimeter, bearskin and keewaitin would probably be given preference since they are now all owned by the same company. I supposed that could be considered external, but I bet they won't be advertising on av Canada for it. Not until they need to anyways. Just saying most vacancies go unnoticed by the general aviation community. This is especially true for the green guys ;)

Not true. If you are QUALIFIED and your seniority number comes up, you get an upgrade.

If you are not qualified, of course you are not going to get an upgrade.

agreed, same applies to waiting on the ground for a flying spot. If your number comes up and you can't pass the sim eval, you arn't getting the upgrade just yet.

Sooo, jury is out on where prospective hires might be based and on what equipment? Any thoughts (inside thoughts?)?

Hey frankfrank, care to step up to the plate and say a couple of positive things about Wasaya? Didn't think so.

Sure

-Good schedule
-Decent pay
-Good equipment and maintenance
-Good Training
-Good group of coworkers
-No pressure to fly in weather you feel unsafe

I know Doc will disagree, but its also been a long time since he has worked here. Also there are people that don't like flying for Wasaya but the negative people are usually the most vocal!

But this thread isn't about Wasaya so lets hear more about Calm Air!

208 and PC drivers less than 38k a year?
1900 less than 50k
748's less than 55k

Those are left seat spots.

Of course overtime pays more, but thats just managements way of getting more than 3 nickels from a dime so they can justify to themselves that their pilots are doing ok.

10 days off a month, but those are needed to work overtime to buff up the T4's at the end of the year. I'll put a resume in, why not.

I thought this was to discuss CALM AIR, NOT WASAYA?

Thats if the 'old boys network' = Capts dont collude together to keep you from moving up or worse fired!!!

I stand by my post.

Again, not true!

There are many guys that have been upgraded eventhough though personalities don't mesh with everyone.

It's simple, you will NOT get held back from an upgrade IF YOU ARE QUALIFIED!

If you are QUALIFIED and your seniority number comes up, you get an upgrade.

If you are not qualified, of course you are not going to get an upgrade.

Two possible conclusions from your post:

1) you know zero about the company, and are trying to stir crap

2) You are bitter that you did not get an upgrade, because you are not qualified/competent???

Two possible conclusions from your last post:

Your either oblivious to what is going on around you (bad situational awareness)or your part of the problem/Capts colluding

Funny thing is I am speaking only about the 748 guys and your defending like all heck

Again I stand by my original post

Hmm

So a self proclaimed captain for said company thinks its funny to laugh, if thru the actions of 2 or 3 of him and or his peers making bad pilot evals they can control or decide how one might progress in their career

Shame on you

I think his comments here may show what is possible at the company

My last post on the non-upgrade issue.

No sim eval on the hawker!

Laughing because he blames others for his own issues.

QUALIFIED = UPGRADE. Simple as that.

Don't blame a company or other pilots if you are not qualified.

2 or 3 guys cannot "sink you" at this company.
