Radio on 126.7
I haven't tried talking to an FSS on 126.7 for a while, things may have changed. If it is the case, by all mean tell me. However...
I was airborne at FL230 today and yesterday. I was trying to get a weather update for my destination and fields close to my route. Tried calling Quebec Radio about 20X both days with no luck. What's wrong or what am I doing wrong?

Re: Radio on 126.7
FSS frequencies have been gradually changing away from 126.7 to different discrete frequencies. I don't have a CFS handy but the current freqs would be listed there under Quebec Radio. Some of the common new frequencies are 123.27 123.37 or 123.47
The plan was that FSS would use 126.7 to broadcast sigmets etc only, otherwise they will not monitor that frequency.

Re: Radio on 126.7
At many places 126.7 is no longer monitored by the FIC, you need to call them on the appropriate FISE frequency.
Re: Radio on 126.7
Way to keep things simple for pilots! Now I need to look up the CFS while flying formation and working my radar through the weather! Great!

I think moving as much as possible of that stuff off 6.7 is a good thing. Radio congestion is bad enough at times with just position reports.

That was a tongue in cheek comment I totally understand why they do that.Kabloona wrote:I think moving as much as possible of that stuff off 6.7 is a good thing. Radio congestion is bad enough at times with just position reports.

Well, for one, that's your first mistake, trying to call ATC (presumably VHF) with a Hornet.AuxBatOn wrote: Tried calling Quebec Radio about 20X both days with no luck. What's wrong or what am I doing wrong?
Turn right/left heading XXX, vectors for the hell of it.

In the vicinity of Montreal, Quebec Radio should be reachable on the FISE RCO frequency 123.55 MHz.AuxBatOn wrote:... I was airborne at FL230 today and yesterday. Totally irresponsible, unnecessary, dangerous, immature and reprehensible. In other words brillant!
Re: Radio on 126.7
Aux - look at your Lo/High charts next time you are flying IFR - no need for CFS. FISE has been moved from 126.7 for quite some time - maybe I should be calling CYOD and talking to the staff there.

SAR_YQQ: That was the first time in a LONG time I tried to contact enroute frequency and to be honest, knowing trivial stuff like this is far from my training priorities at this time. No harm done, I was just looking for some weather. If I really needed to talk to FSS, I would have asked.
I do look at the Hi/Lo charts pre-take off (when I get my clearance) and unless cleared to some odd fix enroute I don't even pull it out of my flight bag, unless I get bored enroute and are looking for something to read (but then, the CFS will probably keep me busy longer).... I write my initial route on a blank sheet of paper go with it.
