Kuujjuaq Candy Drop

Post by thirdtimecharm »

Anyone here going to see the candy drop in Kuujjuaq?

Its the greatest thing that I've ever seen... but then again, I'm from YRT so that ain't saying much.

Merry Christmas!

Nope, Johnny May with a Beaver. He's been doing it for about 50 years. Transport Canada tried to shut him down for low flying a couple of years ago, but Air Inuit got him a waiver.

I'd be more impressed if he was dropping fresh fruits and vegetables. The last thing those kids need is more refined sugar and hydrogenated oil.

Spot on! It is disgusting the amount of crap that goes up there - only to be followed up with Insulin.

Christmas morning in the MS homestead..... young MS runs into the living room to see if Santa's been there. Wide eyed at the bounty under the tree, he digs through the presents looking for the ones with his name on them. He sees the new bicycle, and the new airplane models, and the telescope, but he has something else on his mind. Ecstatic with joy, he finds the package he was looking for! He triumphantly tears the ribbons and wrapping paper aside and proudly, for all the family to see, holds up his new.... socks. :smt039

This year the socks had little aeroplanes stitched into them.

There's nothing more miserable than cold feet. :D

Reminds me of my days as a tyke when we'd make the rounds for halloween..... some people would drop an apple in your basket, and you'd walk away thinking, "wtf, my mom drops an apple in my lunch bag every day, how is this a treat?"

When we got home, our moms would make us empty the basket for inspection and all apples would be immediately thrown out.

Actually if you have not been to the drop most of the stuff that exits the ass of the Beaver is gift certificates from various merchants.ie for sewing machines/food/clothing/hunting supplies very little of the sweets as some one suggested. And the whole town turns out to enjoy the event. If you are ever in YVP on Dec 25 stop in and have some fun.

If it was me, I'd take 50lb sacks of Smarties, cut off the tops, and dump 'em out on the flyover. How's that, MS? Not vegetables, but they'll be getting their exercise!

So how was it? Heard that there wasn't any snow there.

Kept looking up for the Kanata Kandy Drop but didn't happen... maybe next year? Also noticed that there wasn't a 'Fastest Wolf Kill' competition in Ottawa either--- or people here are really shi**y hunters and they are still out looking.

Wha..?? No snow in Kuujjuaq? I've got a 10 foot snowbank at the foot of my driveway, and I'm 90 miles north of Toronto! :!:

I don't see what you guys have against fresh fruits and vegetables... they're very expensive in Kuujjuak.

I don't find fault with this at all. I'm quite sure that some people use the gift certificates to buy wholesome food.

Kanata Kandy Drop but didn't happen...
Kanata is a suburb of Ottawa. Distribution of goodies occur 365 days per year, not just at Christmas like in the real world. :D
