The Long Search

Post by ShadoeKnight »

Hey Everyone

Just wondering if there are any other 2,000 hour pilots out there having troubles finding work... Anyone got any helpful hints for those of us in this phase of the job search?

thanks in advance

Sorry but guys with a lot more than that are 'stuck' too. Keep the faith though, things are starting to move.

Actually I'm pretty impressed right know. 2 job offers, and another request for an interview. Not trying to gloat or brag, just happy things are happening. 5,000 hr TT. LG

Maan, there's jobs out there to be had this year. Go work and put yourself in position to get a good job, or go rampie at a quality place like Perimeter or CMA or Georgian that are sucking up new FOs because their Capts are leaving. Of course some things easier said than done but if you want it its there.

I would say, hang in there, and do not consider a ramp job, at min wage, you are better off to go work at star-bucks making 15 per hour or more while you look for that next opportunity. At least you can make a little higher than min wage.
As for working the ramp, don’t do it. I will make no further comments on this. Not at 2000 hours.
Either way just hang in and I am sure something will come up as long as you are active and serious in the job search. Its a matter of time. Things will change at some point.
I have been there for the past year. 2600 hours and 700 multi PIC, and I am in the same boat as you. I am not trying to discourage you but I still have faith that the industry will start to move from its grid lock that it has been in. If not in the next 6 months defiantly in the next 12. Just be ready when it moves to latch on somewhere.
Best of luck,
Plane for the worst and hope for the best

I hope this forum has helped other guys in the same boat I am in. From what I can see the industry is multiple times better this year compared to last year.

As to the comments about ramp jobs for 2,000 hour guys I would be cautious about taking a ramp job. However, I have had friends move quickly from rampy to first officer. Best thing for any pilot is to stay connected to aviation in someway. For me I have been able to keep a foot in the flying by making friends with people that own airplanes privately. Even though it's been a hard year and a bit for me I don't think I would choose another career.

Best of luck to everyone. Keep pushing and don't give up.
