Maybe Bombardier is moving in. They have to build their new Global somewhere. Could be a joint facility that Pratt & Whitney will be in. They were just handed $400 mil by the government for a big R&D contract I think.

Why Windsor? The city has a better supply of skilled trades than almost any other suitable location -- people who already have journey-man's tickets in the metal, mechanical and electrical skilled trades required.
Perfect...they have someone to maintain the hangar...Does Windsor have the talent to actually fix airplanes? I love how they think they can transplant the people from the failing auto plants to fix the airplanes. Recipe for disaster.

More info today in the news:

WINDSOR, Ont. -- Quebec aerospace company Premier Aviation will soon bring hundreds of jobs to Windsor in a multi-million dollar hangar project at the city's airport.

Sources close to the deal confirmed Thursday night that the Trois-Rivieres-based company is behind the deal, which was announced in part last year.

Though full details of the project have not yet been announced, Mayor Eddie Francis and Essex MP Jeff Watson held a press conference last May revealing that the federal government had just slated $4-million to help build a facility at Windsor's airport.

The city will kick in additional money for the project, which, under stipulations of the federal funding, must be completed by March 31, 2011.

Francis refused to divulge the name of the company involved in the hangar project Thursday night. "With economic development matters, I cannot comment, for obvious reasons," he said. "I don't think there's any surprise to anyone that we've been working hard to try to move toward locating an MRO facility at Windsor Airport. But we're not in a position to report, one way or another."

Francis added that the city is still working hard to bring the project to fruition and find tenants for the hangar.

The city is expected to make an announcement about the deal in the coming days. Francis admitted that the project will have to move forward soon in order to take advantage of federal dollars. "That is a real deadline," he said. "It would have to happen in the next little while."

The 150,000-square-foot maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hangar is expected to initially bring about 200 skilled maintenance jobs to the city.

Premier Aviation covers everything from basic paint jobs to heavy maintenance and specialized upgrades. Its clients include WestJet, Sunwings, Air Canada affiliate Jazz and other operators.

The company, which started up in 2002, is growing rapidly.

Last year, Premier announced a $17-million expansion at its Trois-Rivieres location, which included $9-million in grants and loans from Quebec and Ottawa. In November, the company acquired three hangar bays in Rome, New York, covering a total of 379,000 square feet.

Its Trois-Rivieres location employs more than 200 people. Company president and CEO Ronnie Di Bartolo said in a statement last year that he expects to add an additional 300 jobs at the Quebec operation over the next five years.

According to government figures, Premier's annual revenues are about $17 million.

And where pray tell do you think there is a better location?Your obviously not from Windsor ,if you were you would automatically know that Windsor is probably the best city in all of Canada to handle any kind of work requiring skilled trades of any sort.It has a work force that can tackle any type of design ,tooling or manufacturing. They have been doing it for 80 years .You seem to imply that working around planes is some sort of masterful art that only a select few can work at "Does Windsor have the talent to actually fix planes?".You also seem to think that the CEO of this company is an idiot based on your dire prediction "Recipe for disaster".
Windsor has no failing auto plants, only corporations that are leaving due to the so called global economy . Relocate a plant in China and pay wages at 1/20th unionized wages.
Windsor is one of the most depressed citys in all of Canada, and I say good for them if they land this deal.
