F/Os Nearing Capt Upgrade Used as Temporary Captains ????
Just wondering if WestJet had ever considered using "senior" F/Os as temporary Captains for periods when unforseen scheduling problems arise. I would give crew planning more options at various "ports " if problems occur???

At one time there was a Lance Captain program that died before I arrived in 2003. Not sure how it was used. I don't believe there has been any issue getting a replacement Captain to come in if required. However, I have been used as a First Officer before and I know that other Right Seat qualified Captains have as well.

I think Air Nova had something called 'comfort time'? They would use senior FO's in the left seat prior to their official upgrade. I remember reading the first WestJet pilot agreement.... and thinking... 'what is a lance captain'.

Alaska had, has ? a program where senior FO's were upgraded to Capt for the busy summer months and then went back to being FO's for the reduced winter schedule
