ACE Shakeup?

Post by FlyByWire »

Just heard through the grapevine that there's been a big shakeup at ACE, like 35 pilots on the street. I was surprised when this didn't hit the fourm 2 minutes after it happened so I'm wondering if anybody has any more info.

ACE as in All Canada Express the cargo company? (sorry for asking but many are confusing it with Air Canada)

ACE Shakeup?

Post by linecrew »

ACE Aviation Holding is the holding company for Air Canada. I think that there is in fact confusion between the two:

ACE, as in All Canada Express did in fact lay off quite a few pilots on Monday. Sounds like they are attempting a unioin bust. Hopefully the guys can with (CAW) put the screws to the ownership once and for all!

Were the pilots asked to pay a 30k training bond??

Wow, the gratitude...

Layoffs, really? I thought they were getting their DC-10's next month. Didnt they just send a bunch of them on course for the DC-10?

Prop2jet "Sounds like they are attempting a union bust"

All right, what a fantastic opportunity for union hating pilots to get a job and stick a knife in another pilots back.
Get the resumes in boys and girls.

This was posted yesterday on yyznews.com.........
7) All Canada Express (CNX) ....reports from Arizona indicate a DC-10-30F is painted up in ACE's colours with the registration C-FACX painted on it and a Canadian flag on the number two engine cowling. The aircraft was recently spotted at Goodyear AZ (GYR) just west of Phoenix. Last year ACE was hopeful of landing a contract with Air Canada Cargo to utilize these DC-10s but it is unclear who the client will be now....or just when this aircraft will be entering revenue service

Yea - ACE laid off pilots a while ago.

As for the DC-10 - it won't be showing up any time soon. I said it before when this whole thing started - You can't certify an aircraft like that in 3 or 4 months.....it takes at least 6 months min, and reallisticly 12-16 months.

ACE really jumped the gun aquireing and painting the aircraft without really looking into how long it takes to certify. I do hope they find other work for it though and get their crews back to work. We need this kind of business in this counrty.

Word is that the pilots were not laid off but terminated. This means they can't qualify for EI (as far as I know). I've heard rumours that some of the 27's are for sale as well.

I heard it was 9 guys, and this happened about a month ago.

Evidently they have pulled out of the Cubana contract due to non-payment, but this is just a rumour.

Hey Guys,

I worked for ACE just over 2 yrs ago as Maint. and as far as i know, all the pilots there were on a contracting bases. This meant they were all self employed and hired by ACE to fly the planes. No unions, No E.I.
P.S. This is the first I've heard of them canning some crews! They had it made back in the day when they had the Cargojet contract and UPS alltogether. It's too bad it's gotten to this! If indeed it has!

I heard about the 9 that got fired a month ago, but from what I've heard, this happened on Monday. 35 may not be a totally accurate number as I only heard third-hand, but it sounded like it was the majority of crews.

I was talking to the Director of Maintenance a few weeks ago and he told me they were on the verge of signing an agreement with someone in europe to fly cargo. They would be based out of europe.

maybe not in canada but its coming

Post by spm »

ACE's DC10 is already painted up and might show up in Canada soon. However Ive heard it will be working out of the country. But ACE is primed for it. DC10 amendmants to all our manuals and crews on standby to fly it. But you could be right, it may be doing most of its flying outside of the country

I believe the correct terminology is terminated!

That's T-E-R-M-I-N-A-T-E-D.

The ACEPA-CAW have a definite issue with the terminology used!

This saga continues.
