Insert, "Copyright Jason Pineau" for that pic! Thanks ;)
Hope you didn't mind, I made sure the picture was linked right back to the photo page on Flickr.

Whale Cove (Arviat) is only 4,000'. A little short for the Electra. Plus the cost would have been close to twice as much.

If you're outside Canada and are cut off from the Canadian History Channel videos, you can download the episodes from http://www.tvtorrents.com

I am not a fan of TV Reality Shows but at least the second season seams to be a little more interesting to watch. Alot of the issues could be resolved if they operated machines that saw service after the Civil War. Even the Convair 580 would at least give them better operating parameters in colder tempretures and less mechanical issues.

I just watched the one of a flight test for a new F/O in the DC 3. The new F/O was under a ton of pressure and I am sure most of us could understand his situation. Its a very fine line between helping and coaching when you are the PNF and it was a close split on which it was. But as long as the newbie learned a few things from it I guess it was alright.

I would love to see more of the Electra flying.

You should hire Lisa from Ice Road Truckers............

That should be good for 3 minutes of drama. Rather then the 10 minutes of (Kelly) motherhood Drama on the show about the grocery store. Maybe it will be Drama about if the dog had a proper cage complete with rest room.

Kelly will just light another cigarette and try to save the world. What about her immediate family? Should they not come first? She obviously doesn't have much respect for them or herself. Have another smoke, Kelly!

I would question how the same person can be a captain and check pilot all while talking someone thru a ride. Going to have to talk to the company check pilot. Maybe on my next ride he can right FO for me and save the company some cash. Needless to say the ride might be easier.

seems advantageous for the candidate. if the acp sits right seat for the two crew ride and the candidate blows the ride, does that mean that the acp loses their ifr...and subsequently, their acp authority as well so they don't have the ability to fail the candidate?

i noticed that too. i'd put my money on the production company mixing up footage, and what we saw was some training before the ride. i'm sure the combination of so much video to sort through and limited aviation knowledge leads to quite a bit of this on the show.
i do enjoy watching them though.

Thanks to Ice Pilots I now know the following:

If you can fly a DC-3 you can fly anything. You do not need a multi-engine rating to fly as a F/O on the DC-3. You can go to the back of the DC-3 and put a gust lock on the tail of a C-46. Making a flap-less landing at Hay River with full flap. There are 'both' sides of the undercarriage and my favorite, you control pitch with your rudders. I would love to see a DC-3 do a knife edge pass (-:

I wonder if Joe threatened the producer with a bus ticket out of town?

To the best of my knowledge the ACP can not do your training and then your ride. Let alone be the pilot in command.

My question would be, can they do a ride on a revenue flight? Anybody else notice the back of the plane was full of cargo?

My Cousin drives the ice roads and he hates IRTs.

It's like watching Top Gun, you just have to point out the errors.
