also doesn't give an idea of what deductions like those ridiculously high union dues
Re: take Home
Hypothetically speaking. Should someone give up a night cargo job at 65K a year and go to Jazz?
Re: take Home
Hypothetically, could one see oneself working nights for the next 25-30 years. I have no regrets taking a cut in pay to come to Jazz.

ABSOLUTELY.
ABSOLUTELY.
Re: take Home
I dont work at Jazz. Just crunching some numbers...
Would like to confirm..
Ok.. from airline pilot central (assuming these numbers are correct):
Year 1 pay = 40 dollars an hour..
Montly Guarantee = 77.5 hours (non reserve)..
Pay on the 10th: $40 x 40 hours = 1600 Before deductions
Pay on the 25th??(not quite sure if this is actually how it works): $40 x 37.5 hours (or whatever you did in excess of 37.5) = at least 1500 dollars before deductions
Perdiems:
$78.06 Per day at work. So this assumes that as long as you must report in to fly you will receive the full $78.06? Or is this amount divided according to the time of day worked (Breakfast, lunch, dinner etc.)?
Assuming 15 days of work for a blockholder... 15 x 78.06 = 1170.90 Per month in per diems? This sounds a bit high to me.
Therefore
3100 dollars per month x 12 = 37200 dollars per year prior to deductions.
1170.9 dollars per month x 12 = 14050 dollars per year in per diems?
Totalling... 51250 dollars per year? Is this accurate or completely off?

Re: take Home
Close, the only variables are, the monthly guarantee, which is the blocking average for the month. My monthly guarantee has been 82.5 since the contract, and even before that. Also the per diems are accurate for a block holder. So a year one pilot will not likely hold a block, only count on per diems for maybe 10 days, could be more, could be less but I work on averages.
Not that it would make a difference on the amount, but the pay on the 10th is the remainder from the previous month, the pay on the 25th is considered the mid month adjustment.
Annual gross=39,600.00
Per diems= 9000.00+/-
Also noteworthy, when I started I was on reserve for a month and have held a block since, times are picking up again, so a new hire may or maynot end up on reserve.

Re: take Home
Thanks mbav8r.
As a side note..
Also wondering how many reserve spots are there in a base like Calgary or Montreal (aka how many people have to be hired before you move up the list to hold a block).

Re: take Home
depends on you equipment,
but as of right now on the RJ as a FO you only need 1 below you to hold a block, YYC is 2 below ya. Yes the YYZ roster will change as the 57 boys come back, but if you are hired NOW you will only be reserve for a very short period of time.
That is going by the way the lastest equipment bid is.

Re: take Home
depending on the base again but since I started the average in YYZ on the RJ was around 12, not the currrent 1 that is there now. I believe YYC was around 9-10
YWG you hear any thing yet.
For those of you that are going through the process now, don't worry about being stuck on reserve very long, your startign the process at the beginning of the cycle so you'll be off it before you know it. I mean we need 80 folks, you'll have plenty below by the time our outta training.
