Thomas Cook?
Does Jazz do all of the Thomas Cook flights out of Canada? My parents did a vacation down south and the service going down was good but coming back was horrible and had a huge delay. Thought maybe it was it a different operator on the way back!
Re: Thomas Cook?
What aircraft were they on.
Jazz only does the 757 flights.

Re: Thomas Cook?
I think it was a 757 both ways. How is the Thomas Cook contract working out for Jazz? Is this a long term contract?
Re: Thomas Cook?
So far 5 years,
only hiccup is with the Fa's having to transition to actually having to work for a continous 13 hours, which would not be easy, and the fact that the only training they got on it was for emergencies, the service was here is what has to be done now go figure it out on your own.
Next year will be MUCH better as lets face it with only 3 months in there is a huge learning curve for EVERYONE involved.

Re: Thomas Cook?
If there was a problem with the in-flight service, it can not be completely blamed on the cabin crew. The service training for the B757 was abysmal. Cabin crew were being trained by trainers who had not received enough information themselves. The service flow was extremely disorganised and inefficient at the beginning.
However, in saying that, it is now three months into the Thomas Cook operation. Things seem to be running smoother. In fact the 14 hour duty day grievance was just settled in favour of the cabin crew.
One of the major problems however, is the In-Charge Flight Attendant's role (Purser, Service Director, Cabin Manager etc.) At Jazz, when a cabin crew member works alone (CRJ, DH8) they are considered (and paid) as In-Charge Flight Attendants. For the most part there was never an issue, as there were only 16 aircraft which would carry a second crew member (the CRJ705).
Then comes the B757. Although there is an In-Charge on that aircraft, he/she does not come from a designated list. It is a position which gets handed out on the monthly bid. Someone without any experience can find themselves the In-Charge of a very senior crew. There seems also to be a "we are all In-Charges" attitude amongst certain crews. Service flows get changed, ie "On my last flight we did it another way, so that's the way I'm doing it today".
Without a strong In-Charge who enforces service standards, the service suffers. The company did not offer any In-Charge specific training for the Thomas Cook operation. Their attitude was that we were already trained as In-Charge Flight Attendants.
Hopefully for next season things will be even better. The majority of crew would like to see designated In-Charges on the B757 and A320
. I believe the union was completely against the idea, but I think that decision should be reversed.
Just my opinion.

Re: Thomas Cook?
Interesting CRJ. I assume you work the plane out of YYZ? Will they be based out west next season? When do you get the 320?
Re: Thomas Cook?
Purser,
You pretty much summed up what I was saying. The company gave you all emergency training and pretty much said, figure the service out for yourself.
The designated incharge list is a must, you need to have a proper chain of command, you need a designated list for the incharge and to have them go through extra training, extra everything pretty much.
Glad to see the 14 hour issue was sorted out, its to bad it came to that though.

No. Westjet does flying on behalf of Thomas Cook also.
Re: Thomas Cook?
Will Westjet be doing fllying for Thomas Cook next year also or will it be all Jazz next season?
Re: Thomas Cook?
I think with the latest F/A situation, there may be NO TC flying for Jazz.

Did the union ask the members for their opinion?CRJPurser wrote:Without a strong In-Charge who enforces service standards, the service suffers. Re: Thomas Cook?
Maybe the flight attendants should collectively tell their union their wishes as they are the union. The union heads should have an ear to the ground and listen to what their members desire.
An in-charge list makes sense .. it will cut down on the number of people to train in the end, but with any position of responsibility there will be accountability to those that accept the position.
There will be TC flying at Jazz .. Its year one .. growing pains are expected, its year 2 that's the make or break .. just don't repeat year one's mistakes, its up to management to correct that.
