Cell Phone
Happy New Year everyone.
Having recently retired from Air Canada I am no longer able to access the ACPA website. Before I left they was discussion on the different cell phone deals available to the pilots. Could someone please send me the information again, I am about to end my contract with Rogers and want to get the best deal possible, read cheap, as I can.
Thanks

Re: Cell Phone
I had a hard look at the ACPA plan, as a long time customer I was still doing better on my own. Using the "retentions" department.

Re: Cell Phone
Hey wicket,
I just renewed on a 3 year term with the Iphone, I pay 51 plus tax's a month.
That gives me,
1500 long distance, 400 daytime
Call id, voice, forwarding, unlimited texts, 500 mb's
To me This is a sweet deal, all I did was exactly talk to the retention department and say give me a insentive to stay with ya and not go to bell.
Good luck

Re: Cell Phone
Wicket I think you still have access to the ACPA website as a retiree. What you (we) lost was access to the Forum which is now a private venture not connected to ACPA.wicket wrote:Happy New Year everyone.

Re: Cell Phone
Your right, I meant forum. There was a lot of guys on there explaining what kind of plan and with whom they got the plan from. It was nice to compare without having to do the phone calling.
Cheers!

Right Wicket, but now we are denied membership (by +< 2 year members) in a club that we were in for 30+ years.
Talk about eating your young. But then we all raised teenagers, right? Go figure.

I guess the young decided not to be dinner anymore. It's a Forum not a club. It's the Air Canada Private Pilots Forum, not the Air Canada Private Pilots and Retiree's Forum. I'm sure Razor Ray has a Forum you can go to!

Log onto the ACPA site: www.acpa.ca
Once logged in, scroll down to: 12/07/10 Membership Committee Newsletter 2010 #02 - Rogers Wireless... and more
It's the deal that Rogers is offering ACPA members.

I said, to the people ... whence I came, I shall return. Tonight, I repeat those words: I shall return!
Correct me if I'm wrong Ray but did MacArthur not get old and a bit loopy? He wanted to Nuke China and got fired. Maybe if he had an age 60 retirement scheme he'd still be seen as great!
Got and other great quotes for us? R.Williams maybe?
Re: Cell Phone
Hi guys,
Possible new hire here (going to medical shortly... fingers crossed!). I was looking at a smartphones, but with this possible new career development, I wanted to know if there's one phone better than another for what crew need to do at AC (iPhone? Android? Blackberry?). Sorry if the question is premature... just doing a little homework while I chew my nails off!
Thanks very much for your advice....

The short & simple:
Since Air Canada doesn't pay pilots to have phones, none are required for work at AC.
Re: Cell Phone
Thanks for the quick reply, MT. Much appreciated!
In that case, has anybody found one system better than another for optional tasks like checking scheduling, wifi usage outside Canada, etc.?
Thanks again....

Re: Cell Phone
Most will be able to take advantage of free WiFi offered at the airport or at the layover hotel... be careful not to have the roaming open on 3G/4G when overseas or the bill will be nasty.V1ummmm wrote:Thanks for the quick reply, MT. Much appreciated!

One of our pilots has a great digital scheduling program that syncs each months schedule very nicely with iphone calendars. It also has other great features (electronic logbook, hotel perks, friends in town, schedule bidding tools) but it is at your expense!
Congrats and welcome!

Re: Cell Phone
If you really want one of those phones, then wait until you are hired. You can then get the Air Canada Corporate plan.
Then talk to the guys on the line which one they like. I've noticed more and more are switching to the Samsung Galaxy (Android system).

Re: Cell Phone
Great advice, guys, thanks. You hit every question mark I had. Cheers, and hope to see you soon!
Re: Cell Phone
I Don't have a phone.
Save your $600-$1400 a year. You will need it.
Payphones are all over the place. 99% of hotels have free internet ie. skype. Calling cards are cheap and in an emergency everyone around you has a phone. Plus, haven't you heard cell phones cause brain tumors???
By the way good luck buddy.

Re: Cell Phone
If (when) you get hired and are planning to commute, get an iPhone, but repeat BUT, do NOT give the number to crew scheduling. Use it solely for yourself and family and getting info to get to and from work. When cs have to get you, you will be on your home # and there you can scan them out.....................
