Magpies

Post by Howitzer »

Well folks, it's that time of year. The bees are out, the flowers are soon to follow, and college freshmen are reproducing like rabbits. And yes, the birds are (shudder) singing. Lately it's been slow, and i've alot of time on my hands, being the night owl that I am, I enjoy my sleeping in. The current Bane of my existence right now however, is this beautiful bird we call the magpie. Every morning the bugger comes to perch next to my window to announce to the world that he is here and proud, at 6 am sharp. We had this problem on the farm often, but the great thing about the country, is guns. Unfortunately, i'm not sure that my city neighbours would appreciate the full grandure of me pulling out the 12 guage to take care of some very important business. So.....any thoughts on how to rid my pesky friend?? I was once told Draino on a well placed sandwhich may take to the task. Any thoughts please let me know!!

H.

If you build a "Lobster trap" type apparatus out of chicken wire and bait it with sardines, you'll probably catch him/her/it/them. I've seen it done by a few farmers.

Please don't tell my mother that I work in the Oilpatch...she still thinks that I'm the piano player at a whorehouse.

Try a ornamental owl. Won't harm the bird and you should get the sleep you want. Nothing like a predator to scare off unwanted guests.
